Knowledge Graphs and Semantic Web Technologies on Mobile and Resource-Constrained Devices

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the Sci Special Issue “Knowledge Graphs and Semantic Web Technologies on Mobile and Resource-Constrained Devices”. We welcome the submission of both original research and critical review articles for possible publication in the Issue.

Semantic technologies (i.e., ontologies, linked data, knowledge graphs, etc.) have become a de facto standard for knowledge representation and have been successfully used in many applications. However, although most of us use mobile devices (e.g., smartphones and tablets) more often than computers in our daily lives, most research on Semantic Web technologies usually focuses on desktop computers. Furthermore, the popularity of the Internet of things, smart cities, and sensor networks has increased interest in resource-constrained devices.

This Special Issue aims to collect state-of-the-art breakthroughs on the use of Semantic Web technologies on mobile and resource-constrained devices. Topics of interest for this Issue include:

• Novel strategies for knowledge representation using semantic technologies on mobile and resource-constrained devices (e.g., new syntaxes, new languages, distributed storage).
• Novel reasoning algorithms specifically designed for mobile and resource-constrained devices.
• Novel techniques to optimize the local reasoning on mobile and resource-constrained devices.
• Novel approaches for hybrid reasoning (i.e., combining local reasoning and external reasoning) on mobile and resource-constrained devices.
• Novel techniques to optimize the management of semantic to data on mobile and resource-constrained devices.
• Implementation of novel tools using semantic technologies for mobile devices (e.g., reasoners, editors, APIs).
• Adaptation of existing tools using semantic technologies to run on mobile devices.
• Implementation of real-world applications using semantic technologies on mobile and resource-constrained devices.
• Evaluation of existing techniques using semantic technologies (e.g., ontology reasoning, entity alignment) on mobile and resource-constrained devices.
• Development of benchmarks and open datasets for mobile devices.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
