Polymer Membranes for Water Treatment Applications
This special issue belongs to the section “Polymer Membranes and Films“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
With the growing global challenges of water scarcity and pollution, the development of efficient water treatment technologies has become increasingly critical. This Special Issue focuses on recent advances in polymer membranes for water treatment applications, highlighting innovations in membrane material design, fabrication processes, and performance optimization.
Polymer membranes play an indispensable role in water treatment due to their high efficiency, energy-saving characteristics, and scalability. Recent breakthroughs in molecular design, surface modification, and composite membrane technologies have led to significant improvements in selectivity, flux, antifouling properties, and durability. These advancements offer sustainable solutions for seawater desalination, wastewater reuse, and drinking water purification.
This Special Issue welcomes original research articles and comprehensive reviews addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Novel membrane materials (preparation, performance, and characterization);
- Membrane application technology (micro-polluted water source treatment, industrial wastewater treatment);
- Antifouling surface engineering and interface control strategies;
- High-performance membranes for reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, and ultrafiltration;
- Stimuli-responsive membranes with controllable separation properties;
- Membrane fouling control and cleaning regeneration techniques.
We welcome contributions that bridge fundamental research and technological applications, providing a platform for advancing innovation in water treatment membrane technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
