Virulence and Resistance Mechanisms in Multidrug-Resistant Gram-Negative Bacteria: 2nd Edition

Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to submit research characterizing virulence and/or resistance mechanisms in Gram-negative bacteria to this Special Issue of Pathogens. Gram-negative infections represent a substantial global burden on patients, resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. This is reflected in reports from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization on antibiotic-resistant threats and priority pathogens, respectively, wherein many pathogens noted are Gram-negative. While much is known about many of these pathogens, novel therapeutics to combat these bacteria in healthcare settings are lacking, mainly due to a lack of data pertaining to their underlying virulence and resistance mechanisms. This data sparsity makes the discovery of therapeutic targets difficult, hindering drug development. This Special Issue therefore encourages the submission of original research that closes this knowledge gap by elucidating the virulence and resistance mechanisms of these important bacteria, ultimately aiding in the discovery of novel therapeutic targets.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Pathogens is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
