Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ketogenic therapy (KT) has emerged as a promising nutritional strategy not only for weight management but also for modulating body composition and metabolic health. By inducing a metabolic shift toward fat oxidation and ketone body production, KT influences adipose tissue distribution, preserves lean mass under specific conditions, and impacts hormonal and inflammatory pathways. Increasing evidence suggests that ketogenic interventions may differentially affect fat mass, visceral adiposity, skeletal muscle, and metabolic flexibility, with implications for both clinical and performance settings.

This Special Issue aims to gather high-quality research exploring the interplay between ketogenic therapy and body composition. Topics of interest include (1) mechanisms underlying KT-induced changes in fat and lean compartments; (2) effects of ketogenic diets on muscle mass preservation and sarcopenia; (3) the role of KT in obesity, metabolic syndrome, and related disorders; (4) advanced methodologies (e.g., imaging and metabolomics) to assess body composition changes; and (5) personalized and long-term applications of ketogenic strategies.

By integrating mechanistic and clinical evidence, this Special Issue seeks to clarify the role of KT in optimizing body composition and metabolic outcomes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
