Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Fatigue, fracture and structural integrity assessments of metallic components remain essential for safe and reliable engineering structures. This Special Issue welcomes original research and review papers on experimental, theoretical and numerical advances for welded, notched and multi-material metallic components subjected to static and fatigue loading. Contributions may address mono-material and multi-material systems, similar and dissimilar metal joints, wrought alloys, additively manufactured components and hybrid AM-wrought solutions. Topics include constant- and variable-amplitude fatigue, multiaxial loading, residual stresses, defects and imperfections, weld toe and weld root assessment, notch effects, fracture mechanics and damage-tolerant design. Studies based on standards and codes, as well as advanced local approaches such as structural stress, notch stress, strain energy density, critical distance, local strain and damage mechanics methods, are encouraged. The aim is to provide a forum for reliable assessment methodologies for complex metallic structures.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
