Dear Colleagues,
Metal additive manufacturing enables the production of geometrically complex, high-performance components while creating new opportunities to tailor composition, microstructure, and properties. However, the rapid, cyclic heating and cooling inherent to fusion-based additive manufacturing can produce nonequilibrium microstructures, segregation, anisotropy, residual stresses, and defects such as porosity and cracking. Establishing robust process–structure–defect–performance relationships is therefore essential for improving the reliability and qualification of additively manufactured metals.
This Special Issue, “Additively Manufactured Metallic Materials: Microstructure, Mechanical Properties, and Processes,” seeks original research articles and comprehensive reviews that advance the fundamental understanding and practical control of these relationships.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following broad areas: additive manufacturing processes and feedstocks; process–microstructure relationships; defects, monitoring, and process control; post-processing and microstructure engineering; mechanical properties and performance; and qualification and industrial applications. Studies integrating advanced characterization, mechanics, computational modeling, or data-driven methods to connect processing histories with site-specific microstructures and performance are particularly encouraged. Contributions addressing process repeatability, component qualification, repair and restoration, and industrial implementation are also welcome.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
