In the rapid development of engineering technology, steel structure engineering, leveraging its advantages of lightweight and high-strength, environmental friendliness, and easy assembly, has become a core driving force for innovative development in the field of civil engineering. Entitled “Diversified Development of Steel Structures: Cross-Disciplinary Applications and Enhancement of Safety and Resilience”, this Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge interdisciplinary and cross-scenario research achievements in the field of steel structures, establish a high-level academic exchange platform, and facilitate in-depth discussions among industry experts and scholars on the innovative paths and practical applications of steel structure technologies.
This Special Issue focuses on the expanded applications of steel structures across multiple fields, covering key scenarios such as new energy engineering (e.g., photovoltaic brackets, wind turbine towers), prefabricated buildings, long-span spatial structures, bridge engineering, and marine engineering. It conducts in-depth analysis of design theories, construction technologies, and performance optimization schemes of steel structures under different application scenarios. Meanwhile, centering on the core theme of steel structure safety assessment and resilience improvement, the Special Issue solicits original research in areas including enhancement of structural disaster resistance performance, damage identification and health monitoring, full-life-cycle safety guarantee, and strengthening and rehabilitation technologies. It explores how to enhance the safety reserve and resilience level of steel structures under extreme loads and complex environments through material innovation, structural system optimization, intelligent monitoring technologies, and other means.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
