Dear Colleagues,
Welding remains the most critical technique for joining metallic materials even in the 21st century. However, the constant technological progress, marked by the development of specific new alloys, high-strength steels, etc., necessitates a parallel evolution in joining processes. To keep pace, the industry requires improved welding machinery, new filler materials, or advanced welding methodologies. This progress is intrinsically linked to the essential need to rigorous characterize welded joints and their zones, thereby ensuring that new welding technologies are fully verified for industrial application.
This Special Issue, titled "Recent Progress in Welding Technology for Metallic Materials," is dedicated to showcasing the latest scientific studies and achievements in the field of welding. We invite authors to submit original research articles, comprehensive reviews and technical notes. Submissions addressing technological challenges on welding, material characterization and the complex issues arising during the welding are welcome. A special focus is placed on fracture mechanisms (under static, dynamic, or fatigue loading) and damage evolution, including the effects of corrosion, creep and other environmental conditions. We encourage a diverse range of investigative approaches, including experimental studies (on welding joint integrity, performance and the metallurgical aspect of it), numerical simulations and computational modeling (for instance, fracture), as well as theoretical frameworks.
Submissions dealing specifically with welding cracks and toughness characterization are highly appreciated.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
