Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Agricultural land underpins the survival of 8 billion people, regulates 30% of terrestrial carbon fluxes, and sustains 75% of terrestrial biodiversity (FAO et al., 2020). Yet, this finite resource faces mounting pressures: 12 million hectares degrade annually, while demand for food and biofuels could surge by 50% by 2050. The crux of balancing agricultural land production, conservation, and sustainability lies in achieving yield increases without eroding ecological resilience—making this interplay a defining focus of agricultural land economics.
This Special Issue seeks to gather innovative strategies, policies, and practices that illuminate pathways for balancing agricultural productivity, ecological conservation, and intergenerational equity.
This Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that link the following themes:
- Multifunctional trade-offs and synergies: Interactions between agricultural land’s production, ecological, and social roles.
- Sustainable land use decisions: Behavioral economics of farmers’ adoption of sustainable practices or technologies, including risk perceptions and credit constraints.
- Economic incentives for sustainability: Payment schemes, certification premiums, and carbon markets that reward soil health and biodiversity conservation.
We look forward to receiving your original research articles and reviews.
