Sediment Dynamics in Artificial Nourishments—2nd Edition

Dear Colleagues,

Serious erosion problems related to significant negative sediment budgets in the coastal systems are encountered worldwide. Artificial nourishments are a coastal erosion mitigation strategy that allow for a decrease in negative budgets by adding sediment to the coastal system. However, due to the complexity of coastal processes, sediment dynamics after intervention present difficult evaluations. Research on improving the understanding of these complex processes was presented in the first edition of the Special Issue dedicated to Sediment Dynamics in Artificial Nourishments. The Special Issue received very positive reactions, confirming the relevance of the theme, ending with twelve manuscripts published.

Following this, it is important to continue to disseminate the most updated scientific knowledge on understanding the sediment dynamics processes after artificial nourishments. In accordance, this new edition of the Special Issue accepts significant research on cross-shore and longshore nourished sediments distribution, turbulence and suspended sediments perturbations, biological impacts, monitoring works and sand tracing, shoreline evolution impacts after nourishments, longevity of the nourishments, and artificial nourishment interaction with other coastal structures or nature-based solutions. This new edition Special Issue aims to reinforce the importance of the research developed in understanding sediment dynamic processes related to artificial nourishments.
