Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Lymphedema is a common, chronic and debilitating condition affecting up to 250 million people worldwide. In many countries, lymphedema develops following the treatment of cancer, in particular breast and gynecologic cancer. Long-standing lymphedema may cause considerable fibrosis in the affected limbs, leading to erythema, recurrent cellulitis, decreased range of motion, and a significantly reduced quality of life. On top of complete decongestive therapy, there have been successful reports deploying various surgical methods, including lymphovenous bypass, vascularized lymph node transfer, and liposuction. However, to date, no definitive therapeutic approach fully addresses symptoms of lymphedema and treatment is primarily symptomatic. This Special Issue entitled “Surgical Management of Lymphedema: Past, Present, and Future” is intended to provide an overview of recent advances in the field of lymphedema surgical treatment and understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of lymphedema.
We cordially invite researchers involved in basic research, as well as in translational studies, to submit their original research, systematic reviews, and short communications to this Special Issue.
