IoT and Informatics Applications in Logistics and Intelligent Transportation Systems

Dear Colleagues,

The specific objectives of the modern Logistics and Transportation Challenges are smart, green, and integrated services to achieve planning, scheduling, and transport systems that are resource-efficient, and climate- and environmentally-friendly, safe and seamless for the benefit of all citizens, the economy and society. In this context, the increasing complexity of such systems of systems and the availability of inexpensive sensors and communication, mobile computing, advanced and real time analytics and cloud services are redefining the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and logistics. Utilization of IoT is redefining asset tracking, inventory and warehouse management in the logistics sector, as well as in manufacturing. In parallel, the automotive industry is undergoing a significant change to provide better road safety and co-operative mobility management while reducing the effect on environment. These ongoing and future activities related to IoT in ITS and logistics pose research, as well as engineering, challenges.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Informatics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
