Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Healthcare Editorial Team, I am delighted to invite you to contribute to our upcoming Special Issue, "Eating Behaviors and Disorders: Healthcare Perspectives and Implications on Mental and Physical Health". This Special Issue aims to explore the complex relationship between eating behaviors and health outcomes, addressing the urgent need for a multidisciplinary approach to understanding, preventing, and managing eating disorders within healthcare settings.

Eating disorders are a growing public health concern, affecting individuals across diverse demographics and contributing to significant physical and psychological morbidity. These disorders not only increase the risk of severe health complications, such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and metabolic dysfunction, but they also exacerbate mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression. Despite advancements in research, there remain critical gaps in the early detection, effective intervention, and long-term management of these conditions within healthcare systems. This Special Issue seeks to highlight innovative research, clinical advancements, and policy considerations that can inform better healthcare practices.

We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, and clinical perspectives on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • The intersection of eating behaviors and mental health, specifically how eating disorders co-exist with and influence conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders;
  • Advancements in psychological treatment strategies, by evaluating the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic interventions, including cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approaches, and novel digital therapies;
  • Medical and nutritional management of eating disorders, by addressing the physiological impacts of disordered eating, including metabolic, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal complications;
  • Gender and sociocultural factors in eating disorder prevalence and treatment outcomes;
  • The role of healthcare professionals in diagnosis, multidisciplinary care, and long-term support, with the aim of improving clinical training and collaboration across medical, psychological, and nutritional domains;
  • Public health strategies for prevention, such as examples of the implementation of evidence-based interventions to reduce the incidence and stigma surrounding eating disorders.

As Healthcare (ISSN 2227-9032) is an internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journal committed to publishing high-quality interdisciplinary research, we believe your expertise in this field would make a significant contribution to this Special Issue.

If you have any questions or require further details, please do not hesitate to contact me. We look forward to your valuable submission and to advancing research in this critical area of healthcare.
