Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The industrial hemp food and nutraceutical supply chain is increasingly recognized as a strategic model for sustainable and resilient development. From cultivation to the production of functional food ingredients and nutraceutical products, hemp offers unique opportunities to integrate innovation, environmental sustainability, and economic value. Its multifunctional potential enables the valorization of multiple plant fractions, yielding nutrient-rich proteins, bioactive compounds, and functional materials for food formulations. Nevertheless, the sector still faces challenges related to regulatory harmonization, process optimization, and the need for robust scientific evidence to ensure safety, quality, and bioavailability.

This Special Issue is organized in connection with and in support of the conference “Sustainability and Resilience in the Industrial Hemp Supply Chain”, and focuses exclusively on food and nutraceutical applications within the industrial hemp supply chain. The objective is to gather experimental and theoretical research on sustainable practices, novel processing technologies, characterization of hemp-derived nutrients and bioactives, and bioavailability and health effects, as well as strategies to enhance resilience and value creation in the hemp food and nutraceutical sectors.
