Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Against the background of the rapid expansion of global aquaculture to meet growing demand for aquatic food, and the global industrial push for antibiotic reduction and replacement (no-antibiotic production) to address antimicrobial resistance, infectious diseases of aquatic animals have become one of the most serious threats to industry sustainability, global food security and aquatic biodiversity. Consequently, there is an urgent need for innovative, effective and eco-friendly solutions for the prevention and control of aquatic animal diseases. We hereby invite researchers from a wide range of disciplines, including aquatic veterinary medicine, fish immunology, microbiology and aquaculture engineering, to contribute to this Special Issue, which focuses on cutting-edge advances in the sustainable prevention and control of aquatic animal diseases under the no-antibiotic framework.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Molecular mechanisms underlying host-pathogen interactions in aquatic organisms
- Development of next-generation vaccines and immunoprophylactics for aquatic animals
- Novel Biological Strategies and Bioactive Compounds for Aquatic Disease Control
- Advanced early diagnostic technologies for aquatic animal pathogens
- Epidemiological investigation and risk assessment of emerging aquatic diseases
- Selective breeding for disease-resistant aquatic germplasm
Your original research and comprehensive reviews will play a critical role in advancing knowledge in this important field and bridging fundamental scientific discoveries with practical applications for the global aquaculture industry. We look forward to receiving your contributions to this timely and impactful Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Fishes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
