Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fishery products and fish play a significant role from both nutritional and economic perspectives. These products have a high content of proteins and fatty acids that are essential for billions of people worldwide, especially in places where other sources of protein are scarce. The high consumption of fish and fishery products must be linked to the development of preservation techniques that extend the shelf life of these products and maintain their sensory and nutritional qualities. New strategies are needed to enhance the safety and quality of fish products while guaranteeing environmentally friendly solutions. Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), vacuum packaging, natural preservatives and antimicrobial agents derived from various sources, including plant extracts and microorganisms, represent technological innovations that can extend the shelf life of these products while maintaining nutritional qualities.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • New strategies for packaging of fishery and fishery products
  • Use of new preservatives and old preservatives in new ways
  • Food safety and food security associated with fish and fishery products
  • Study of shelf life of fish and fishery products

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Fishes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
