Impacts of Wildfires on Threatened Wildlife Species

Dear Colleagues,

Wildfire is a natural ecosystem disturbance. The persistence of threatened wildlife in fire-prone ecosystems is under increasing pressure from alterations to fire regimes caused by the loss of indigenous cultural burning practices; entrenchment of fire suppression policies aimed at fighting fire; the spread of invasive plants; and climate change. Changes to fire regimes create challenges for endangered wildlife by destroying and modifying habitats and altering trophic cascades that can amplify the impacts of predators on prey species. As wildfires cause landscape-level habitat modifications, understanding how wildlife responds to these disturbances is crucial for managing and conserving threatened species.

Therefore, we are pleased to invite researchers from all over the world to submit their research on the impacts of fires and wildfires on threatened and endangered wildlife species.

This Special Issue aims to highlight original findings regarding the impacts of wildfires on a diverse range of species, but papers covering current knowledge gaps and potential areas for future investigations are also encouraged.

Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Fire impacts on habitats and ecosystems of threatened wildlife;
• Fire impacts on endangered animals;
• Remote sensing of fire ecology relevant to threatened wildlife;
• Geospatial analysis of fire ecology relevant to threatened wildlife.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Fire is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
