Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Due to the increasing adoption of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in reshaping our educational practices, which especially evident in virtual and hybrid learning environments, we believe that AI (GAI) technologies are set to significantly impact both learning and teaching. A positive aspect is that these AI (GAI) tools may offer unprecedented opportunities to enhance accessibility, personalization, and engagement in classrooms. However, integrating AI responsibly requires a more careful approach to addressing ethical concerns in teaching and learning, ensuring fairness, inclusivity, and promoting equitable access in a way that fosters meaningful learning outcomes for all students.
Consequently, our Special Issue aims to explore how innovative applications of AI (GAI) are likely to affect both traditional and/or virtual classrooms, emphasizing pedagogical frameworks that support self-regulated learning (SRL), human–AI collaboration, and/or linguistic justice for learners of an additional language. We would like to seek scientific and empirical contributions that investigate the impact of AI tools or GAI tools (or intelligent tutoring systems), such as chatbots, adaptive systems, and immersive technologies, on student experiences, teacher practices, and institutional policies. We also welcome theoretical papers that are built on solid scientific evidence. This Special Issue seeks gather together strong contributions to the field of AI in education, highlighting evidence-based opportunities and challenges, and providing practical insights into sustainable AI integration into teaching and learning in a manner that aligns with diverse learner needs.
Areas of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
Ethical AI deployment in education; AI-enhanced virtual learning platforms; inclusivity and equity in AI-driven tools; personalization through AI analytics; and future directions for AI in postsecondary and K-12 settings; as well as other related topics covering GAI or AI use in classroom settings.
We invite original research, reviews, and case studies to advance this critical discourse.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Education Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
