Emerging Materials and Surface Chemistry for High-Efficiency Energy Storage and Conversion
This special issue belongs to the section “Surface Engineering for Energy Harvesting, Conversion, and Storage“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to submit your research to this Special Issue entitled “Emerging Materials and Surface Chemistry for High-Efficiency Energy Storage and Conversion”. The global transition from fossil fuels to clean and sustainable energy is accelerating. Energy storage and conversion technologies are critical for clean energy systems, including electricity and hydrogen for transportation and daily applications. Among these technologies, coatings play an important role in battery components and hydrogen storage systems. They directly influence energy storage capacity, conversion efficiency, safety, durability, overall costs, etc.
Advances in coating materials and surface chemistry enable improved interfacial stability, enhanced electrochemical and mechanical performances, and extended service life under demanding operating conditions. Therefore, continued innovation in coating technologies is essential for achieving high-efficiency, safe, and long-lasting energy storage and conversion devices. This Special Issue aims to present the most recent investigations and advances in coating technologies for high-efficiency energy storage and conversion through original research articles and comprehensive review papers contributed by leading scientists and engineers worldwide.
In particular, the topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Novel technologies for hydrogen storage and conversion;
- Advanced coatings for battery technologies;
- Novel material characterization methods for coating applications;
- Numerical and computational methods applied to coating materials;
- Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven approaches in coating technology;
- Material synthesis and processing strategies for functional coatings.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
