Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Brain tumors include a wild range of primary and secondary tumors that remain deadly diseases despite the variety of available treatments in general oncology. Most recent treatments prove inefficient against brain tumors, mostly because of their particular environment, with specific immune components and neural activity, making the transposition of immunotherapy or targeted molecules ineffective, despite direct intrathecal administration. In addition, the invasion of cancerous cells into functional brain parenchyma leads to limited options in terms of local control of the disease while preserving neurological functions.
Neurosurgery remains the first step of diagnosis and treatment, and research in this area remains a key factor in approaching the tumors. Optimizing the oncological and neurological balance during surgery is a daily challenge, even with intraoperative tools allowing a better understanding of the local tissue. The development of animal or simulation models are needed to allow new tools to emerge, young neurosurgeons to practice safely, and brain cancer researchers to deal with realistic models when tackling fundamental mechanistic questions.
For this Special Issue, we invite neurosurgeons, oncologists, engineers, and biologists to submit their articles or reviews. We are particularly interested in new findings or concepts in the areas of research models for brain tumor neurosurgery, surgery simulation, intraoperative tools and techniques, and innovative thinking to approach neuro-onco-surgery and its teaching. Contributions from oncological surgeons dealing with other types of cancer are also of great interest.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
