Dear Colleagues,
The precise visualization of internal anatomy is a fundamental cornerstone of modern medicine. With the rapid evolution of minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries across various medical disciplines, traditional two-dimensional radiological scans often fall short in providing the necessary spatial depth and structural relationships. Consequently, unexpected anatomical variations—particularly concealed vascular networks and organ topographies—remain a primary cause of severe intraoperative complications.
To bridge this gap, recent engineering breakthroughs in medical imaging, including high-fidelity three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven image segmentation, and virtual surgical planning, are fundamentally transforming clinical workflows. These digital technologies allow for the creation of patient-specific anatomical models, enabling precise preoperative navigation, spatial mapping of hidden anomalies, and substantial risk mitigation during complex procedures.
This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest advancements in medical imaging technologies and their direct translation into clinical practice. We welcome original research, technical evaluations, and comprehensive reviews focusing on novel imaging algorithms, 3D morphological modeling, AI applications in radiology, and the integration of these engineering solutions to enhance the safety and efficacy of diagnostic and surgical interventions.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Advanced 3D reconstruction and visualization techniques for complex internal anatomies.
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms for automated medical image segmentation.
- Engineering applications in preoperative planning, risk simulation, and surgical navigation.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
