Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue of Atoms is dedicated to “Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy in Plasmas”, covering a broad range of plasma environments—from those produced in laboratory settings, such as electron beam ion traps and storage rings, to the exotic and complex conditions found in stellar atmospheres, as well as in magnetically and inertially confined fusion plasmas. Spectroscopic observations of plasmas offer key advantages due to their non-invasive nature, making them extremely valuable for research and industrial applications. However, inferring accurate information from these observations requires a comprehensive understanding of the interaction of matter and radiation under non-equilibrium conditions, including the effects of collective fields depending on the plasma environment.

This Special Issue focuses on the experimental and theoretical aspects of spectroscopic studies of both low- and high-temperature plasmas under diverse conditions, with an emphasis on atomic and molecular data critical to such studies. In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Spectroscopy in low- and high-temperature plasmas;
  • Structure and properties of atoms and molecules;
  • Experimental plasma spectroscopy;
  • Plasma modeling;
  • Spectral line intensities and shapes;
  • Astrophysical plasma studies;
  • Fusion plasma research;
  • Spectroscopy in dense plasmas;
  • Radiative transfer in plasmas.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Atoms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
