Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue on “Dance Performance Studies” invites authors to submit their innovative research articles, both scholarly and practice-based, about research projects that integrate philosophies/methods of creating/making/artistry in practice, choreography and performance. The articles could examine, for example, technique(s), improvisation, performer training, analysis, performance research, historical/contemporary perspectives, digital arts, embodiment, intersectionality, identity/ies, impacts/implications and/or reflexivity. The work can also relate to various ways of presenting dance performance. Research-based dance performance projects can be a collaborative inquiry process that involves a team, including dance artists/dancers, choreographers, producers, researchers, and lighting/set designers, who collectively engage with a complex research topic in artistic, academic/educational, community, and/or digital learning spaces.

The aim is to publish a collection of submissions that appeal (equally) to researchers/academics, educators, artists, and community members, and we encourage/invite arts-based and/or participatory approaches to be emphasized when sharing your scholarly work. Single-authored and collaborative articles are welcome, as are interdisciplinary teams (with the emphasis on the dance performance).
