Development of Advanced Machining and Joining Processes of Engineering Materials

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The constant endevour for lighter structures and faster means of transport has led to dynamic technological developments. The ever-increasing demand for components of the highest accuracy in their dimensions and shape necessitates improvements in existing techniques or the search for novel manufacturing processes. In all areas of engineering (aerospace, automotive, marine and building industries), the selection of the appropriate manufacturing technology plays a key role in ensuring the required productivity, quality and operational safety. Machining and assembly processes have an impact on the basic strength properties of constructions, which are increasingly expected to fulfil an ever broader set of requirements and multiple functions under operating conditions. There is a wide and diverse range of requirements and functions that current materials and structures should fulfil. Particular attention should be paid to the machinability of innovative engineering materials, as well as the compatibility and weldability of materials and the metallurgical effects of joining process parameters on their final microstructure and properties.

This Special Issue provides an excellent opportunity to present research results related to the processing of innovative materials and non-separable joints.

We are pleased to invite you to submit original research papers, short communications or state-of-the-art reviews within the scope of this Special Issue. Submitted papers can range from novel approaches to machining innovative materials and assessments of the post-machining surface quality, to modelling and investigating the properties of non-separable joints.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include the following:

  • machining of innovative materials,
  • performance properties of innovative materials after machining,
  • special technologies for assembly processes
  • design of robotic assembly stations,
  • non-destructive testing of assembly connections,
  • design of joining processes,
  • optimisation of assembly and machining processes,
  • modelling and simulation of welding and joining processes,
  • modern developments in machining and assembly,
  • improving the performance properties of assembly joints.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
