Sustainable Maritime Transport and Ports: Challenges and Opportunities—2nd Edition
This special issue belongs to the section “Marine Science and Engineering“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Ports are important gateways for global trade and engines for regional growth. However, due to their environmental footprint and socio-economic impact, they are at the centre of the debate on sustainable development. With maritime transport under increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to climate change, the role of ports as hubs for innovation, resilience and green transition has never been more important.
We invite submissions for a Special Issue on “Sustainable Maritime Transport and Ports: Challenges and Opportunities”. This Special Issue will focus on the decarbonisation of shipping, the development of green ports, the relationship between ports and cities and the integration of innovative terminal technologies. We welcome contributions that address pressing challenges such as emissions reduction, regulatory fragmentation, financing green technologies, climate change impacts, port congestion, community conflict, geopolitical disruption and the skills shift in the maritime labour force. At the same time, we encourage research that identifies opportunities related to alternative fuels, digitalisation, smart port solutions, circular economy models and resilience strategies. This Special Issue will provide a platform for knowledge exchange and innovative thinking to promote maritime sustainability.
