Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of materials science and engineering has witnessed remarkable advancements in recent years, driven by the development of novel materials with tailored properties for a wide range of engineering applications. Advanced materials, including composites, nanomaterials, biomaterials, and smart materials, are revolutionizing industries such as aerospace, automotive, energy, healthcare, and electronics. The synthesis and characterization of these materials are critical to understanding their structure–property relationships and enabling their successful integration into real-world applications. With the growing demand for high-performance, sustainable, and multifunctional materials, there is an urgent need to explore innovative synthesis techniques and advanced characterization methods to push the boundaries of material design and functionality.

This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers to share their latest findings on the synthesis, characterization, and application of advanced materials. We seek to highlight cutting-edge research that addresses the challenges and opportunities in developing materials with enhanced mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical properties. By bringing together contributions from diverse disciplines, this Special Issue will foster collaboration and accelerate the development of next-generation materials for engineering applications.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which will showcase original research articles and reviews that advance the understanding and application of advanced materials. This Special Issue aims to bridge the gap between fundamental research and practical engineering solutions, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in materials science.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Novel synthesis techniques for advanced materials;
  2. Characterization of material properties;
  3. Materials for energy applications;
  4. Biomaterials and bioinspired materials;
  5. Smart materials and adaptive systems;
  6. High-performance composites and coatings;
  7. Materials for environmental sustainability;
  8. Additive manufacturing and 3D printing of advanced materials;
  9. Materials for extreme environments;
  10. Computational materials design and modeling.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
