Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Prediction and estimation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from livestock systems are an elementary scientific and practical challenge. Methodological development, validation, and harmonization are critical to improving the comparability and quality of the emission estimates across contexts. The development of methodological innovation not only enables more accurate quantification but is also a crucial tool for the design, monitoring, and evaluation of sustainable livestock practices. Effective, tested, and standardized approaches help generate uniform inventories, allow science-informed mitigation action, and make international commitments to climate change adaptation and mitigation.

This Special Issue welcomes submissions that explore and propose new measurement and model approaches, cross-validation or adjustments of existing approaches, inclusion of new technologies, remote sensing, and large data, and innovation to enhance accuracy and pertinence across a variety of livestock systems, including conventional, traditional, silvopastoral, and pasture systems. In addition, contributions presenting, evaluating, or discussing sustainable alternatives to mitigate emissions, such as improved feeding practices, grazing land management, genetic enhancement, or incorporation of agroforestry elements, are also welcome.

This Special Issue aims to share scientific contributions that promote methodological innovation, more comparable and consistent estimates, and contribute to the definition of strategies to move towards more sustainable livestock production.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
