Agronomic Practices for Sustainable Arable Crop Production
This special issue belongs to the section “Crop Production“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The concept for this Special Issue, titled "Agronomic Practices for Sustainable Arable Crop Production", emerged from the extensive cultivating areas for arable crops and the rising global need for raw materials sourced from these crops (such as fiber crops, cereals, legumes, oilseeds, energy crops, aromatic–medicinal, and sugar-producing species), all while aiming to reduce negative environmental impacts.
Throughout the 20th century, driven by technological advancements in mechanization, synthetic fertilizers, and pesticides that have facilitated large-scale monocultures, arable crops' yields have been boosted, but they have also raised significant ecological issues, including soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, and pollution.
In the early 2000s, an increasing awareness of climate change and resource limitations prompted a transition towards more sustainable cropping systems.
The main aim of the articles addressing this subject is to identify, assess, and advocate for cropping strategies that improve productivity while ensuring long-term environmental sustainability. Additionally, the goal is to develop new crops that will enhance agricultural output in an environmentally respectful manner.
The scope of this Special Issue encompasses both traditional and emerging arable crops, innovative crop management strategies, advanced cultivation techniques, and resilient cropping systems designed to enhance environmental sustainability. Contributions may further explore the role of sustainability standards and market dynamics in facilitating the widespread implementation of these practices.
Ultimately, this Special Issue aims to advance the scientific and practical understanding of agronomic pathways that support environmentally sustainable arable production, providing actionable insights and highlighting future research directions for the field.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
