Cover Story: In early 2025, a major measles outbreak emerged in the Texas–New Mexico region, raising serious public health concerns amid declining vaccination coverage. This study uses empirical and mechanistic mathematical models to characterize the outbreak’s growth dynamics. By estimating the exponential growth rate, basic reproduction number, and effective reproduction number, we provide quantitative insight into the transmissibility of measles during the early phase of the outbreak and compare it with previous epidemics. View this paper
