Cover Story: In micro-scale compressors, low Reynolds numbers and relatively larger tip clearances deteriorate performance, which could be improved using flow control. According to a review of the state-of-the-art of the active and passive control methods from numerous engineering applications, the passive methods, such as riblets, squealers, winglets and grooves, could be beneficial in centrifugal compressors, but their performance depends on the operating conditions.View Paper here.
