The overall quality of the work is commendable. However, I must point out that the subject matter covered in the article is not particularly novel. To enhance the review's comprehensiveness and relevance, I recommend that the authors incorporate discussions regarding the applications of lignin in the realm of sensors and biosensors. While the authors touch upon the potential applications in electronics, it is equally crucial to explore the utilization of lignin in sensing technologies, including sensoring and photosensing applications.

 

I would strongly advise considering the inclusion of the following article in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of this topic: "Novel nanoarchitectures based on lignin nanoparticles for electrochemical eco-friendly biosensing development" authored by Tortolini, C., Capecchi, E., Tasca, F., Saladino, R., and Antiochia, R., published in Nanomaterials in 2021 (Volume 11, Issue 3, Pages 1-17, Article 718). This resource provides valuable insights into the potential applications of lignin in the development of environmentally friendly biosensing technologies. Incorporating this research would not only enrich the article but also make it more up-to-date and pertinent.

I have reviewed the manuscript titled " An overview of lignocellulose and its biotechnological importance in high-value product production" and I appreciate the effort put into this work. The topic is undoubtedly relevant, as lignocellulose and its biotechnological applications are of significant interest in various fields. However, I have identified several critical issues that need to be addressed before considering this manuscript suitable for publication in Fermentation.

Unclear Focus of the Review:

 

The central focus of the review is not adequately defined. It is essential to clarify the specific objectives and research questions that the review intends to address to provide a more cohesive narrative.

Structural and Organizational Problems:

The structure and organization of the manuscript are problematic. The content appears disorganized, making it challenging for readers to follow the flow of ideas. A clear and logical structure is needed to enhance readability.

Insufficient Data and Case Studies:

This review lacks detailed data and case studies to support the claims and statements made throughout the text. The inclusion of empirical data and practical examples is essential to strengthen the manuscript's credibility.

Terminology and Conceptual Clarification:

The manuscript frequently uses technical terminology without adequate explanations. Definitions of key terms and concepts should be provided to ensure that readers with varying levels of expertise can understand the content.
