Cover Story: Sedentary individuals face higher CVD risk, and fostering exercise adherence in less active adults has remained arduous. To date, research has mostly examined broad connections between cognition and health status. In contrast, here we intended to investigate a specific cognitive domain and health measures related to CVD. We chose to investigate cognitive flexibility because it aids adaptability and problem-solving as well as influences various choices and behaviors. It was our overall aim to examine the potential differences between rigid and flexible individuals as they relate to the presentation of CVD risk factors and exercise perceptions and choices. If relationships were to be established, we could better individualize clinical trials aimed at promoting exercise adherence, and therefore reduce the growing worldwide burden of CVD. View this paper
