Cover Story: This study investigated the determinants of bus ridership within a midsize city urban context in the U.S. Using an advanced econometric approach with a random coefficients approach, we can explore the impact of bus frequency, stop centrality, and route design on the ridership patterns in this urban context: higher bus frequency and centrally located stops significantly enhanced ridership, while overabundance of stops along routes could negatively affect the ridership. Practical recommendations for optimizing public transit systems and improving the allocation of public resources in comparable urban areas are highly attractive. View this paper
