Cover Story: We present ClassifyMe, a software application designed to automatically recognise and sort images of different animal categories as detected by camera traps. Review of camera trap imagery is highly time-consuming and also a major barrier to large-scale analysis of camera trap datasets. The development of ClassifyMe resolves this challenge, and unlike alternative cloud-based solutions, it does not require high-bandwidth internet connections nor the transfer of image data to remote repositories. In fact, ClassifyMe can be utilised in remote field locations on laptops or workstations. Within this paper, we present the benefits of ClassifyMe, discuss its software design structure and report evaluations of recognition models calibrated at long-term study sites. View this paper
