March 2017 - 38 articles

Cover Story: Successful gene therapy relies on the development of efficient and biocompatible delivery vectors. Cationic polymers hold tremendous potential in this regard due to their low cytotoxicity and rapid complexation with negatively-charged nucleic acids. With a multitude of structures available, the challenge has become fine tuning macromolecular composition to probe detailed structure–property relationships. In this issue, Campos and co-workers explore the gene delivery capacities of polymers based on the aromatic trisaminocyclopropenium ion. Modifying the degree of substituent chain branching, the authors found a significant dependence on substituent identity while highlighting the importance of precise control over polymer structure.
