Cover Story: Performance requirements of applications continue increasing and manycore architectures are being built to fulfill these requirements. General purpose architectures are not as efficient as specialized architectures which are valid at the manycore scale as well. However, exploring design space of manycore architectures, especially of the heterogeneous ones, is a real challenge. Therefore, we came up with an automated design method to build manycore architectures based on specialized cores on applications within a domain. The designed architecture will not target a single application but a domain of applications. We believe that future manycore architectures will most likely have specialized components and the aforementioned design method will facilitate the design of these architectures.
