In Appreciation

Medical literature is dependent on peer review. It is this system that ensures that published papers are of the highest quality. It is not a perfect system; books have been written discussing its weaknesses and flaws. However, no one has ever developed a better way of ensuring scientific validity. For the system to work, a cadre of expert manuscript reviewers must be assembled, which is not an easy task. Specialties must be identified, schedules coordinated, and time-consuming services volunteered. The reviewers receive no reward or compensation other than the satisfaction of knowing that they have contributed to the body of knowledge within the profession.

As a small token of appreciation, the Journal staff would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank those reviewers who assisted with manuscript review over the past year. There would not be a Journal without them.
