Cover Story: Psychotherapy and psychosomatic rehabilitation have no curative effect in the treatment of ME/CFS. Nevertheless, patients suffer severely, and the specifics of this disease represent an enormous psychological challenge for them. A psychotherapeutic approach is outlined that takes into account two principles: that ME/CFS is a physical illness and curative treatment must therefore be physical, and that post-exertional malaise (PEM) is the cardinal symptom of ME/CFS which warrants tailored psychotherapeutic attention. View this paper
