Cover Story: Diabetic neuropathy is an independent risk factor for falls, with injury, psychological distress and physical activity curtailment as clinical implications. Absent sensory feedback and the deterioration of motor function, resulting from sensory–motor neuropathy, are fundamental underpinning factors. Sensory–motor mechanisms cause alterations to gait biomechanics, inducing balance impairment and increasing fall risk. Optimising the interventions that target these sensory–motor mechanisms is essential. View this paper
