Cover Story: This is a review of the Indo-West Pacific scombrid genus Rastrelliger. Formerly, the genus was considered to contain three valid species: R. brachysoma (Bleeker, 1851) and R. faughni Matsui, 1967, both known from the northern Indian Ocean to western Pacific Ocean, and R. kanagurta (Cuvier, 1816), the most widespread Indo-West Pacific species. The goal of this review is to resurrect the Red Sea endemic species R. chrysozonus (Rüppell, 1836) from the synonymy with R. kanagurta. Both species are redescribed in detail, based on an integrative morphological and molecular assessment; the latter supports that R. chrysozonus forms a well divergent evolutionary lineage. Rastrelliger chrysozonus differs from R. kanagurta primarily by a longer upper jaw. In addition, brief species accounts for R. brachysoma and R. faughni and the key to the four species are provided.
