Mental Health in Trauma Survivors

Topic Information

Dear Colleagues,

Trauma, whether from armed conflict, forced displacement, natural disasters, interpersonal violence, or chronic systemic adversity, leaves deep and often lasting effects on mental health and well-being. This Topic will gather high-quality, interdisciplinary research that advances knowledge of the mental health challenges and recovery processes of trauma survivors, including children and adults, across different populations and settings. We welcome empirical studies, theoretical and conceptual papers, and review articles that examine the prevalence, pathways, and long-term impacts of trauma-related conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, substance use, and complicated grief, along with protective factors including resilience, social support, and post-traumatic growth. Submissions may focus on a wide range of interventions, from clinical, psychiatric, and integrated healthcare approaches to community-based and culturally informed psychosocial interventions. We particularly encourage contributions that incorporate global and cross-cultural perspectives, address disparities in access to care, and evaluate innovative strategies for prevention, early intervention, and sustained recovery. By connecting evidence from diverse disciplines and contexts, this Topic aims to strengthen policy and practice and to promote healing, equity, and well-being for all who have experienced trauma.
