Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics in Astrophysics

Nonextensive statistical mechanics is a non-traditional statistical theory that is based on Tsallis’ nonextensive entropy and has power-law distribution functions, suitable for describing nonequilibrium complex systems with long-range interactions. It has been widely and successfully applied to study complex systems in various natural science research fields, such as physics, chemistry, astronomy, astrophysics, life sciences etc. In the fields of astronomy and astrophysics, the theory of nonextensive statistical mechanics has been successfully applied to the study of self-gravitating systems, Jeans criteria, stellar polytopes, systems with kappa distributions, plasma astrophysics, dark matter, galaxies, galaxy clusters, and so on.

This Special Issue aims to further enhance and expand the research applications of nonextensive statistical mechanics in astrophysics, exploring the understanding and analysis of astronomical and astrophysical phenomena in astrophysical complex systems with non-Maxwell velocity distributions. The scope of this Special Issue includes but is not limited to papers on astrophysical and space plasmas, planetary physics, transport phenomena in astrophysics, self-gravity systems, solar and stellar physics, galaxy dynamics, gravitational waves, dark matter, dark energy, and cosmology.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Entropy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
