Dear Colleagues,
Biomedical and biological data increasingly grow in size and complexity. These datasets are wide, diverse, and complex, and thus require novel tools and techniques for their exploitation and knowledge extraction. Machine learning, a branch of artificial intelligence, has been widely applied in bioinformatics and computational biology to take advantage of the large number of data produced by these fields. This Special Issue aims to highlight studies related to: new algorithms and applications of machine learning in bioinformatics and computational biology; large-scale computational science with biological datasets; biomedical implementation of machine learning; artificial intelligence and deep learning approaches, systems for helping in assisted decisions, such as recommendation systems; use of semantic similarity; and text mining.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
