Specific Emitter Identification (SEI) is a specialized technique for identifying different emitters by analyzing the unique characteristics embedded in received signals, known as Radio Frequency Fingerprints (RFFs), and SEI plays a crucial role in civilian applications. Recently, various SEI methods based on deep learning have been proposed. However, in real-world scenarios, the scarcity of accurately labeled data poses a significant challenge to these methods, which typically rely on large-scale supervised training. To address this issue, we propose a novel SEI framework based on self-supervised contrastive learning. Our approach comprises two stages: an unsupervised pretraining phase that uses contrastive loss to learn discriminative RFF representations from unlabeled data, and a supervised fine-tuning stage regularized through virtual adversarial training (VAT) to improve generalization under limited labels. This framework enables effective feature learning while mitigating overfitting. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we collected real-world satellite navigation signals using a 40-meter antenna and conducted extensive experiments. The results demonstrate that our approach achieves outstanding SEI performance, significantly outperforming several mainstream SEI methods, thereby highlighting the practical potential of contrastive self-supervised learning in satellite transmitter identification. The cement sheath is critical for ensuring the long-term safety and operational efficiency of oil and gas wells. However, complex geological conditions and operational stresses during production can induce cement sheath deterioration and cracking, leading to reduced zonal isolation, diminished hydrocarbon recovery, and elevated operational expenditures. This study investigates the development of a novel microbial self-healing well cement slurry system, employing fly ash as microbial carriers and sustained-release microcapsules encapsulating calcium sources and nutrients. Systematic evaluations were conducted, encompassing microbial viability, cement slurry rheology, fluid loss control, anti-channeling capability, and the mechanical strength, permeability, and microstructural characteristics of set cement stones. Results demonstrated that fly ash outperformed blast furnace slag and nano-silica as a carrier, exhibiting superior microbial loading capacity and viability. Optimal performance was observed with additions of 3% microorganisms and 3% microcapsules to the cement slurry. Microscopic analysis further revealed effective calcium carbonate precipitation within and around micro-pores, indicating a self-healing mechanism. These findings highlight the significant potential of the proposed system to enhance cement sheath integrity through localized self-healing, offering valuable insights for the development of advanced, durable well-cementing materials tailored for challenging downhole environments. Students, particularly those in the medical field, are exposed to various stressors that can affect their health-related behaviors, including smoking habits, with implications for oral health and quality of life. Background and Objectives: to analyze the relationship between smoking, oral health, perceived stress level, and self-assessed quality of life in a sample of dental students. Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional study included 338 students, who completed validated questionnaires and were clinically examined. Lifestyle was assessed using a smoking behavior questionnaire, stress levels were measured with the Student Stress Inventory (SSI), and quality of life was evaluated using the EQ-5D-5L instrument. The DMFT index was calculated to determine oral health status. Results: Among the 338 participating students, 53.8% were smokers. The lifestyle analysis revealed slightly higher average scores among non-smokers across all domains—social (3.26 vs. 3.09), attitudinal (2.75 vs. 2.97), and behavioral (3.82 vs. 3.49), but without statistically significant differences (p > 0.25). The mean DMFT score was 12.48, with no significant differences between smokers and non-smokers (p = 0.554). The SSI total score averaged 83.15, indicating a moderate level of perceived stress, again with no statistically significant differences between the groups (p > 0.05). However, slightly higher average stress scores among smokers may suggest the use of smoking as a coping mechanism. In contrast, quality of life as measured by EQ-5D-5L showed significantly worse outcomes for smokers across all five dimensions, including mobility (78.6% vs. 95.5%, p = 0.000) and self-care (93.4% vs. 100%, p = 0.001). Multivariable logistic regression identified smoking (OR = 1.935; p = 0.047) and moderate stress levels (OR = 0.258; p < 0.001) as independent predictors of oral health status. Conclusions: The results obtained suggest that smoking may function as a stress management strategy among students, supporting the relevance of integrating specific psychobehavioral interventions that address stress reduction and oral health promotion among student populations. Background: The use of lower limb prosthesis can impact all aspects of daily life, activities and participation. Various studies have compared the microprocessor-controlled knee (MPK) to the non-microprocessor-controlled knee (NMPK) using a variety of different outcome measures, but results are inconsistent and raise the question of which type of knee is most effective. Therefore, we aimed to assess the effect of MPKs compared to NMPKs across all classified ICF domains in adult prosthesis users. Methods: Participants performed baseline measurements with the NMPK (T0). One week later, they started a four-to-six-week trial period with the MPK. Afterward, measurements were repeated with the MPK (T1). Functional tests (6MWT, TUG-test and activity monitor) and questionnaires (ABC, SQUASH, USER-P and PEQ) were used. For statistical analyses, paired t-tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and Chi2 test were applied. The Benjamini–Hochberg procedure was applied to correct for multiple testing. Results: Twenty-five participants were included. Using an MPK compared to an NMPK significantly resulted in improvements in balance and walking confidence, safety, walking distance and self-reported walking ability, as well as a decrease in number of stumbles and falls. Additionally, participants using an MPK were significantly more satisfied with their participation, experienced fewer restrictions, reported greater satisfaction with the appearance and utility of the MPK, experienced less social burden and reported better well-being, compared to using an NMPK. Conclusions: Using an MPK instead of an NMPK can lead to significant improvements in all classified ICF domains, such as improved walking ability, confidence and satisfaction and reduced fall risk. In this paper, the accuracy of basic and advanced spiral inductor models for gallium nitride (GaN) integrated inductors is evaluated. Specifically, the experimental measurements of geometrically scaled circular spiral inductors, fabricated in a radio frequency (RF) GaN-on silicon technology, are exploited to estimate the errors of two lumped geometrically scalable models, i.e., a simple π-model with seven components and an advanced model with thirteen components. The comparison is performed by using either the standard performance parameters, such as inductance (L), quality factor (Q-factor), and self-resonance frequency (SRF), or the two-port scattering parameters (S-parameters). The comparison reveals that despite a higher complexity, the developed advanced model achieves a significant reduction in SRF percentage errors in a wide range of geometrical parameters, while enabling an accurate estimation of two-port S-parameters. Indeed, the correct evaluation of both SRF and two-port S-parameters is crucial to exploit the model in an actual circuit design environment by properly setting the inductor geometrical parameters to optimize RF performance. Background/Objectives: Understanding the impact of dietary habits in terms of obesity, health outcomes, and functional decline is critical in Europe’s growing elderly population. This study analyzed trends in Mediterranean diet (MD) adherence, obesity prevalence, and grip strength among middle-aged and elderly Europeans using data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). Methods: Data from four SHARE waves (2015–2022) across 28 countries were analyzed. Dietary patterns were assessed through food frequency questionnaires classifying participants as MD-adherent or non-adherent where adherent implies daily consumption of fruits and vegetables and occasional (3–6 times/week) intake of eggs, beans, legumes, meat, fish, or poultry (an unvalidated definition of the MD pattern). Handgrip strength, a biomarker of functional capacity, was categorized into low, medium, and high groups. Body mass index (BMI), self-perceived health (SPHUS), chronic disease prevalence, and CASP-12 scores (control, autonomy, self-realization, and pleasure evaluated on the 12-item version) were also evaluated. Statistical analyses included descriptive methods, logistic regressions, and multiple imputations to address missing data. Results: A significant majority (74–77%) consumed fruits and vegetables daily, which is consistent with MD principles; however, the high daily intake of dairy products (>50%) indicates limited adherence to the MD, which advocates for moderate consumption of dairy products. Logistic regression indicated that individuals with two or more chronic diseases were more likely to follow the MD (odds ratio [OR] = 1.21, confidence interval [CI] = 1.11–1.32), as were those individuals who rated their SPHUS as very good/excellent ([OR] = 1.42, [CI] = 1.20–1.69). Medium and high maximal handgrip were also strongly and consistently associated with higher odds of MD adherence (Medium: [OR] = 1.44, [CI] = 1.18–1.74; High: [OR] = 1.27, [CI] = 1.10–1.48). Conclusions: The findings suggest that middle-aged and older adults are more likely to adhere to the MD dietary pattern if they have more than two chronic diseases, are physically active, and have a medium or high handgrip. Although an unvalidated definition of the MD dietary pattern was used, the results highlight the importance of implementing targeted dietary strategies for middle-aged and elderly adults. Self-regulated learning (SRL) has been widely recognized as a critical skill for academic success in online and blended learning contexts. However, many students experience difficulty in effectively applying SRL strategies in the absence of structured instructional guidance. To address this challenge, this study developed and implemented a learning management system integrated with SRL support (SRL-LMS), specifically designed for the online component of a blended learning course. The SRL-LMS consisted of two sections: a conventional course content section and a SRL training section designed to support students in applying SRL strategies. A quasi-experimental design was adopted with 69 college students assigned to either an experimental group, with access to both course and SRL sections, or a control group, which accessed only the course section. Results indicated that students in the experimental group reported higher levels of self-regulation and showed more frequent and diverse application of SRL strategies compared to the control group. In terms of academic performance, the experimental group performed significantly better than the control group on the first exam, though no significant difference was observed on the second exam. These results highlight the effectiveness of structured SRL interventions within digital learning platforms for improving students’ self-regulatory behaviors. Future implementations should address cognitive load and incorporate strategic approaches to sustain student motivation. This study advances current SRL intervention designs and offers valuable insights for educators and instructional designers aiming to integrate targeted SRL supports in online and blended learning environments. Optical solitons have emerged as a highly active research domain in nonlinear fiber optics, driving significant advancements and enabling a wide range of practical applications. This study investigates the dynamics of dark solitons in systems governed by the resonant nonlinear Schrödinger equation (RNLSE). For the RNLSE with third-order (3OD) and fourth-order (4OD) dispersions, the dark soliton solution of the equation in the (1+1)-dimensional case is derived using the F-expansion method, and the analytical study is extended to the (2+1)-dimensional case via the self-similar method. Subsequently, the nonlinear equation incorporating perturbation terms is further studied, with particular attention given to the dark soliton solutions in both one and two dimensions. The soliton dynamics are illustrated through graphical representations to elucidate their propagation characteristics. Finally, modulation instability analysis is conducted to evaluate the stability of the nonlinear system. These theoretical findings provide a solid foundation for experimental investigations of dark solitons within the systems governed by the RNLSE model. Full article

A Safety-Based Approach for the Design of an Innovative Microvehicle

The growing popularity of Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs), such as e-scooters, has revolutionized urban mobility by offering compact, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transportation solutions. However, safety concerns, including inadequate infrastructure, poor protective measures, and high accident rates, remain critical challenges. This paper presents the design and development of an innovative self-balancing microvehicle under the H2020 LEONARDO project, which aims to address these challenges through advanced engineering and user-centric design. The vehicle combines features of monowheels and e-scooters, integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance safety, stability, and usability. The design adheres to European regulations, including Germany’s eKFV standards, and incorporates user preferences identified through representative online surveys of 1500 PLEV users. These preferences include improved handling on uneven surfaces, enhanced signaling capabilities, and reduced instability during maneuvers. The prototype features a lightweight composite structure reinforced with carbon fibers, a high-torque motorized front wheel, and multiple speed modes tailored to different conditions, such as travel in pedestrian areas, use by novice riders, and advanced users. Braking tests demonstrate deceleration values of up to 3.5 m/s2, comparable to PLEV market standards and exceeding regulatory minimums, while smooth acceleration ramps ensure rider stability and safety. Additional features, such as identification plates and weight-dependent motor control, enhance compliance with local traffic rules and prevent misuse. The vehicle’s design also addresses common safety concerns, such as curb navigation and signaling, by incorporating large-diameter wheels, increased ground clearance, and electrically operated direction indicators. Future upgrades include the addition of a second rear wheel for enhanced stability, skateboard-like rear axle modifications for improved maneuverability, and hybrid supercapacitors to minimize fire risks and extend battery life. With its focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and rider-friendly innovations, this microvehicle represents a significant advancement in promoting safe and sustainable urban mobility. Full article

Lower respiratory tract infections remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among Intensive Care Unit patients, with severe cases often progressing to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This life-threatening syndrome results from alveolar–capillary membrane injury, causing refractory hypoxemia and respiratory failure. Early detection and management are critical to treat the underlying cause, provide protective lung ventilation, and, eventually, improve patient outcomes. The 2012 Berlin definition standardized ARDS diagnosis but excluded patients on non-invasive ventilation (NIV) or high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) modalities, which are increasingly used, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. By excluding these patients, diagnostic delays can occur, risking the progression of lung injury despite ongoing support. Indeed, sustained, vigorous respiratory efforts under non-invasive modalities carry significant potential for patient self-inflicted lung injury (P-SILI), underscoring the need to broaden diagnostic criteria to encompass these increasingly common therapies. Recent proposals expand ARDS criteria to include NIV and HFNCs, lung ultrasound, and the SpO2/FiO2 ratio adaptations designed to improve diagnosis in resource-limited settings lacking arterial blood gases or advanced imaging. However, broader criteria risk overdiagnosis and create challenges in distinguishing ARDS from other causes of acute hypoxemic failure. Furthermore, inter-observer variability in imaging interpretation and inconsistencies in oxygenation assessment, particularly when relying on non-invasive measurements, may compromise diagnostic reliability. To overcome these limitations, a more nuanced diagnostic framework is needed—one that incorporates individualized therapeutic strategies, emphasizes lung-protective ventilation, and integrates advanced physiological or biomarker-based indicators like IL-6, IL-8, and IFN-γ, which are associated with worse outcomes. Such an approach has the potential to improve patient stratification, enable more targeted interventions, and ultimately support the design and conduct of more effective interventional studies. Vehicle re-identification (Re-ID) is a critical computer vision task that aims to match the same vehicle across spatially distributed cameras, especially in the context of remote sensing imagery. While prior research has primarily focused on Re-ID using remote sensing images captured from similar, typically elevated viewpoints, these settings do not fully reflect complex aerial-ground collaborative remote sensing scenarios. In this work, we introduce a novel and challenging task: aerial-ground cross-view vehicle Re-ID, which involves retrieving vehicles in ground-view image galleries using query images captured from aerial (top-down) perspectives. This task is increasingly relevant due to the integration of drone-based surveillance and ground-level monitoring in multi-source remote sensing systems, yet it poses substantial challenges due to significant appearance variations between aerial and ground views. To support this task, we present AGID (Aerial-Ground Vehicle Re-Identification), the first benchmark dataset specifically designed for aerial-ground cross-view vehicle Re-ID. AGID comprises 20,785 remote sensing images of 834 vehicle identities, collected using drones and fixed ground cameras. We further propose a novel method, Enhanced Self-Correlation Feature Computation (ESFC), which enhances spatial relationships between semantically similar regions and incorporates shape information to improve feature discrimination. Extensive experiments on the AGID dataset and three widely used vehicle Re-ID benchmarks validate the effectiveness of our method, which achieves a Rank-1 accuracy of 69.0% on AGID, surpassing state-of-the-art approaches by 2.1%. This study empirically investigates the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools within Hungarian religious communities, with a focus on Catholic respondents, to assess their awareness, application, and acceptance of AI in religious contexts. By religious communities, we do not mean monastic or priestly communities, but rather communities of lay religious people. Conducted between 10 February and 11 March 2025, the questionnaire-based research (N = 133) employs Campbell’s Religious Social Shaping of Technology (RSST) framework to analyze attitudes toward AI across 15 religious functions. Six hypotheses explore gender differences, religiosity types (church-based vs. self-defined), and the acceptability, authenticity, and ethicality of AI applications. Findings reveal high acceptance for administrative tasks (e.g., email list updates: 64.7%) and technical functions (e.g., live translation: 65.4%), but low acceptance for spiritual roles (e.g., spiritual leadership: 12.8%). Self-defined religious individuals are significantly more accepting, perceiving AI as more authentic and ethical compared to those adhering to church teachings. No significant gender differences were found. The study contributes to digital religion studies, highlighting the influence of religiosity on AI adoption, though its non-representative sample limits generalizability. Full article

Self-medication is a subject of global importance. If practiced responsibly, self-medication represents a part of self-care or positive care of an individual or a community in promoting their own health. However, today’s practices of self-medication are often inappropriate and irresponsible, and as such appear all over the world. Inappropriate self-medication can be connected with possible serious health risks and consequences. Therefore, it represents a global health issue. It can even generate additional health problems, which will eventually become a burden to healthcare systems and can induce significant costs, which also raises socioeconomic concerns. Hence, self-medication attracts the attention of researchers and practitioners globally in efforts to clarify the current status and define feasible measures that should be implemented to address this issue. This narrative review aims to give an overview of the situation in the field of self-medication globally, including current practices and attitudes, as well as implications for actions needed to improve this problem. A PubMed/MEDLINE search was conducted for articles published in the period from 1995 up to March 2025 using keywords “self-medication” or “selfmedication” alone or in combinations with terms related to specific subthemes related to self-medication, such as COVID-19, antimicrobials, healthcare professionals, and storing habits of medicines at home. Studies were included if self-medication was their main focus. Publications that only mentioned self-medication in different contexts, but not as their main focus, were excluded. Considering the outcomes of research on self-medication in various contexts, increasing awareness of responsible self-medication through education and informing, together with surveillance of particular medicines and populations, could lead to more appropriate and beneficial self-medication in the future. Comparative Stability and Anesthetic Evaluation of Holy Basil Essential Oil Formulated in SNEDDS and Microemulsion Systems in Cyprinus carpio var. Koi

Background/Objectives: Holy basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum L.) essential oil exhibits antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anesthetic activities, mainly due to eugenol, methyl eugenol, and β-caryophyllene. However, its clinical application is limited by poor water solubility, instability, and low bioavailability. This study developed and compared two delivery systems, self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) and microemulsions (ME), to enhance their stability and fish anesthetic efficacy. Methods: The optimized SNEDDS (25% basil oil, 8.33% coconut oil, 54.76% Tween 80, 11.91% PEG 400) and ME (12% basil oil, 32% Tween 80, 4% sorbitol, 12% ethanol, 40% water) were characterized for droplet size, PDI, zeta potential, pH, and viscosity. Stability was evaluated by monitoring droplet size and PDI over time and by determining the retention of eugenol, methyl eugenol, and β-caryophyllene after storage at 45 °C. Fish anesthetic efficacy was tested in koi carp (Cyprinus carpio var. koi). Results: SNEDDS maintained a small droplet size (~22.78 ± 1.99 nm) and low PDI (0.188 ± 0.088 at day 60), while ME showed significant size enlargement (up to 177.10 ± 47.50 nm) and high PDI (>0.5). After 90 days at 45 °C, SNEDDS retained 94.45% eugenol, 94.08% methyl eugenol, and 88.55% β-caryophyllene, while ME preserved 104.76%, 103.53%, and 94.47%, respectively. In vivo testing showed that SNEDDS achieved faster anesthesia (114.70 ± 24.80 s at 120 ppm) and shorter recovery (379.60 ± 15.61 s) than ME (134.90 ± 4.70 s; 473.80 ± 16.94 s). Ethanol failed to induce anesthesia at 40 ppm and performed poorly compared to SNEDDS and ME at other concentrations (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: SNEDDS demonstrated superior physical stability and fish anesthetic performance compared to ME. These findings support SNEDDS as a promising formulation for delivering holy basil essential oil in biomedical and aquaculture applications. Full article

Objectives: Nasal reconstructive surgery following skin cancer resection is challenging, with esthetic concerns impacting patients’ quality of life. Non-surgical rhinoplasty may be an alternative to repeated surgeries. This study aimed to evaluate non-surgical rhinoplasty esthetic benefits and subjective patient outcomes after skin cancer resection. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on patients with post-operative esthetic dissatisfaction after nasal skin cancer surgery, who underwent non-surgical rhinoplasty with hyaluronic acid. Subjective benefits were evaluated with the FACE-Q Rhinoplasty self-questionnaire at three consultations: before injection (baseline), and at one and two months after. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional Vectra H2 photographs were used to assess subjective esthetic concerns and objective volumetric changes. Results: The study included six female patients with an average age of 58.3 years. They had undergone, on average, five nasal surgeries for cancer. The mean FACE-Q scores were 53.3 (±10.31), 77.5 (±4.18), and 79.7 (±6.76), respectively, at baseline, one month, and two months. Significant differences were observed between baseline and one month (p < 0.001) and between baseline and two months (p < 0.001), but not between one and two months. The was a mean volumetric gain of 1.13 mL at one month and 1.19 mL at two months. Conclusions: This preliminary study suggested that hyaluronic acid-based non-surgical rhinoplasty could improve esthetic outcomes and quality of life in patients who had undergone nasal skin cancer surgery. These findings highlight a potential role for this minimally invasive technique in selected post-reconstructive cases, although the small sample size limited the generalizability of the results and underlined the need for further prospective evaluation.
