Accelerated urbanisation and associated land-use conversion are reshaping the composition and functions of terrestrial ecosystems globally. In Southeast Asia, ecological change is increasingly mediated not only by demographic urbanisation but also by urban expansion, peri-urban development, and the conversion of agricultural, coastal, and forest land into built-up surfaces. This study integrates multi-source geographical information from 2014 to 2024 to examine 351 provincial-level units in 11 Southeast Asian nations. To describe the spatial-material dimension of urbanisation and ecological conditions, two indices were created: the Composite Nighttime Light Index (CNLI), used as a proxy for urban expansion and built-up development intensity, and the Improved Remote Sensing Ecological Index (IRSEI), which is tailored to tropical coastal locations. The development of human-environment interactions was measured using the Coupling Coordination Degree (CCD) model. Pathways of synergy and trade-off were found using an incremental four-quadrant framework, and nonlinear causes of spatial differentiation were investigated using Spearman correlation and the Optimal Parameter-based Geographical Detector (OPGD). Uncertainty was addressed through data-quality masking, annual compositing, consistent index-construction rules, and cautious interpretation of CCD and driver results as relative provincial-scale patterns. The regional mean CCD rose from 0.250 to 0.314 during the decade, showing a slow improvement; nevertheless, most places still have low to moderate levels of coordination. There is clear pathway divergence, with 38.7% of locations enduring trade-offs where built-up development happens at the price of ecological quality and 58.4% of regions seeing synergistic improvement. The coupling pattern is primarily driven by built-up area expansion, with multiple factors jointly producing strong nonlinear enhancement effects. Climate conditions and forest disturbance further strengthen these effects. This study extends beyond single-country analyses by situating remote-sensing coupling results within land-use transition, peri-urbanisation, urban–rural linkage, and regional-governance perspectives. It provides quantitative evidence to support differentiated policy strategies in rapidly urbanising places. Full article

Electrostatic MEMS micromirrors provide a compact and low-power beam-steering solution for miniaturized laser communication terminals. However, when they are used for quasi-static beam pointing rather than resonant scanning, the nonlinear voltage–angle relationship, bidirectional actuation asymmetry, and terminal-level installation errors can significantly degrade pointing accuracy. In this paper, a nonlinear modeling and differential-voltage control method is investigated for a two-axis electrostatic MEMS micromirror used in a miniaturized laser communication terminal. The device under test is a bonded aluminum MEMS micromirror with a 5.0 mm aperture. Static and dynamic characterization results show that the micromirror achieves maximum mechanical deflection angles of 5.215° and 5.161° along the X and Y axes, respectively, with resonant frequencies of 317 Hz and 319 Hz. To improve the accuracy of quasi-static pointing, the differential-voltage actuation principle is analyzed, and a nonlinear voltage–angle model is established based on measured deflection data. Compared with a first-order linear model, the cubic nonlinear model reduces the root-mean-square fitting error from 0.142° to 0.0127° for the X axis and from 0.132° to 0.0109° for the Y axis. Furthermore, a terminal-level calibration architecture based on a quadrant detector is introduced to map the MEMS angular deflection to the received spot position. The proposed modeling and calibration approach provides an actuator-level basis for accurate beam pointing and closed-loop acquisition in miniaturized laser communication terminals. Full article

The measurement and improvement of urban land use efficiency (ULUE) are crucial for sustainable development in China’s Canal Cities (CCCs). Drawing on the theories of production factors, spatial externalities, and agglomeration economy, this study proposes a framework that explicitly addresses the trade-offs and synergies of sustainable land use. A comprehensive ULUE evaluation index system was established. The super-SBM (Slack-Based Measure) and Global Malmquist–Luenberger (GML) index models were employed to assess the green efficiency of urban land use from 2002 to 2023, while Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) and the optimal parameters-based geographical detector (OPGD) model were used to investigate the spatiotemporal evolution and influencing factors of ULUE. The results reveal a distinctive V-shaped trend in efficiency, marked by significant spatial disequilibrium and predominantly technology-driven sustainable growth. Furthermore, ULUE exhibits a spatial distribution characterized by bipolar and multipolar differentiation, accompanied by concurrent concentration and dispersion, with high-value clusters dominating the spatial clustering type. Government regulation emerges as the dominant factor influencing ULUE, underscoring the pivotal role of policy intervention in guiding the sustainable development of land use. The interactions among pairs of influencing factors strengthened over time; notably, the interaction between government regulation and other factors is the strongest. Four-quadrant analysis profoundly reveals the underlying mechanism, distinguishing a high-quality, sustainable development model driven by technological innovation and a resource-dependent economic growth model. The findings provide valuable insights for promoting green development and formulating sustainable land use policies in CCCs. Full article

Ecological zoning is important for understanding spatial heterogeneity and supporting landscape-level management. However, existing approaches rarely integrate ecosystem service supply with ecological risk, and their underlying nonlinear relationships remain insufficiently explored. This study aims to develop an integrated framework linking ecosystem service value (ESV) and landscape ecological risk (LER) based on a two-dimensional quadrant model. This framework integrates ESV and LER from complementary benefit–risk perspectives, advancing ecological zoning beyond single-indicator approaches. Using the Miyun Reservoir Basin as a case study, multi-source data from 2000 to 2020 were used to quantify ESV and LER and to examine their spatiotemporal dynamics. The ESV-LER framework was applied to identify ecological functional zones. In addition, the XGBoost-SHAP model combined with the Geographical Detector was used to explore the nonlinear effects and interactions of natural and anthropogenic drivers. ESV showed a “decline-recovery” trend, whereas LER exhibited an opposite “decrease-increase” pattern. Areas with both high ESV and high LER were mainly distributed around the reservoir and river networks, suggesting a spatial mismatch between ecological value and risk. Ecological improvement and conservation zones accounted for approximately 79% of the basin, while ecological risk prevention zones expanded over time, indicating increasing human disturbance. NDVI was identified as a dominant factor with dual effects, enhancing ESV while reducing LER, whereas population density and NPP exhibited nonlinear threshold effects that increased ecological risk. Overall, this study advances ecological zoning by integrating functional value and risk perspectives while explicitly revealing their nonlinear drivers. The proposed framework provides a transferable and interpretable approach for watershed-scale ecological management and supports more targeted and differentiated governance strategies. Full article

For low-energy rare-isotope beam experiments, a large-area quadrant silicon pad sensor (5 × 5 cm2) has been developed for the TexAT active target system. Unlike finely segmented sensors such as small-scale pad or strip sensors, the operational stability of large-area segmented sensors is critically dependent on the electric field distribution at the device termination; thus, optimizing the guard-ring design is essential to prevent premature breakdown. In this study, we systematically investigated three different guard-ring configurations featuring 6, 9, and 14 rings (denoted as G6, G9, and G14, respectively) through TCAD simulations and experimental measurements. The TCAD results demonstrated that the G9 design, which utilizes a graded-spacing strategy, is more effective in mitigating the maximum electric-field concentration at the sensor edge than designs that simply feature a higher number of rings (G14). Accordingly, the G9-based quadrant sensor was fabricated, and its performance was validated through electrical performance evaluations and radioactive source tests, confirming a low leakage current of several tens of nA and an energy resolution of approximately 31 keV (FWHM) (for 3.18 MeV α-particles from 148Gd). Furthermore, beam tests performed at the RAON facility verified the operational reliability of the sensor in a practical in-beam environment. In conclusion, these results provide essential design criteria for large-area silicon detectors in rare-isotope beam experiments, and the developed detectors will be equipped to the TexAT array to enhance the precision of nuclear physics measurements. Integrated optical phased array (OPA) chips enable high-speed beam steering via electronic phase control, providing a promising solution for compact pointing, acquisition, and tracking (PAT) systems. However, OPA-PAT systems must simultaneously achieve wide-field-of-view (FOV) coverage and high-precision angle-of-arrival (AOA) detection. To address this challenge, a cascaded AOA detection method based on a multi-sensor collaborative architecture is proposed. This approach utilizes a distributed detector array (DA) for coarse incident angle estimation over a wide-FOV, which then guides a two-dimensional (2D) galvanometer to steer the beam into a quadrant detector (QD) for fine measurement within a narrow-FOV. A prototype system is developed to validate the proposed cascaded algorithm. Experimental results show that within a ±20° FOV, the proposed system achieves root-mean-square errors (RMSEs) of 0.007° in azimuth and 0.01° in elevation. When integrated into an OPA-PAT terminal, static 2D closed-loop tracking is maintained with an overall tracking error better than 0.016° (RMSE). These results demonstrate that the proposed cascaded detection method can simultaneously provide wide-FOV coverage and high-precision AOA measurement, offering a practical solution for wide-FOV OPA-PAT systems. Laser fiber-based collimation straightness measurement can eliminate the intrinsic drift of the laser source while offering a simple configuration and simultaneous measurement of straightness in two orthogonal directions. As a high-precision optoelectronic sensing method, it has been widely used for the measurement of straightness, parallelism, perpendicularity, and multi-degree-of-freedom geometric errors. However, two common issues remain in practical applications. One is the nonlinear response of the four-quadrant detector, the core position-sensitive sensor, which is caused by detector nonuniformity and the quasi-Gaussian distribution of the spot. The other is the degradation of measurement performance by atmospheric inhomogeneity and air turbulence along the optical path, particularly in long-distance measurements. To address these issues, a two-dimensional planar calibration method is first proposed to replace conventional one-dimensional linear calibration. A polynomial surface-fitting model is introduced to correct the nonlinear response and inter-axis coupling errors of the four-quadrant photoelectric sensor. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed method significantly reduces the standard deviation of calibration residuals and improves measurement accuracy. In addition, based on our previously developed common-path beam-drift digital compensation method, comparative experiments were carried out on double-pass common-path and single-pass optical configurations employing corner-cube retroreflectors, and theoretical simulations were performed to analyze the influence of air-turbulence disturbances on measurement stability. Both theoretical and experimental results show that the double-pass common-path configuration exhibits more pronounced temporal drift. Therefore, a real-time digital compensation method for beam drift in long-distance single-pass common-path measurements is proposed. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively suppresses drift induced by environmental air turbulence and thereby improving the accuracy and stability of long-travel geometric-error and related straightness measurement for machine-tool linear axes. A four-quadrant low-coherence envelope detection method was proposed for measuring the surface spacing of optical components, eliminating the requirement for precise control of the delay line scanning step to generate a π/2 phase shift. The method employs an orthogonal polarization Mach–Zehnder (MZ) fiber interferometer, illuminated by a broadband superluminescent diode (SLD), and a four-quadrant polarization-resolved detector to simultaneously acquire spatially phase-shifted interference signals carrying surface spacing information. The interference envelope is directly demodulated to extract surface spacing, thereby decoupling measurement accuracy from mechanical stepping constraints. To enable real-time, high-precision calibration of the delay line, two complementary schemes were implemented: wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)-based calibration and dual optical path calibration. Experimental results confirm that the dual-path scheme exhibits weak dependence on scanning velocity and remains stable across a wide speed range. Repeat measurements of the surface spacing of a 1 mm thick sapphire plate yielded a standard deviation (STD) of 1.3 μm. By relaxing the strict π/2 phase shift condition traditionally imposed on scanning step size, this method improves operational efficiency while maintaining measurement reliability—providing a robust and broadly applicable solution for metrology, including lens surface spacing and transparent plate thickness characterization. To improve solar energy utilization efficiency, address control precision issues in solar panel tracking systems, and strengthen the sustainable supply capacity of clean renewable energy, this study proposes an innovative variable universe fuzzy adaptive PID control algorithm for high-precision solar tracking systems. Based on this algorithm, a fusion scheme combining a high-precision four-quadrant detector and GPS positioning is employed to achieve real-time and precise positioning of the tracking system. The azimuth and elevation angle deviations between the real-time solar rays and the system’s actual position are calculated and used as input signals for the tracking control system. These deviations are dynamically corrected by the variable universe fuzzy adaptive PID controller, which drives a stepper motor to achieve high-precision solar tracking. The results demonstrate that, under ideal operating conditions, the proposed algorithm reduces the steady-state error by 3.5–4.9°, shortens the settling time by 4.4–5.8 s, decreases the rise time by 0.6 s, lowers the overshoot by 18–19%, and reduces the disturbance recovery time by 1.3 s. These improvements significantly enhance tracking accuracy and dynamic response efficiency. Under complex operating conditions, the algorithm reduces the steady-state error by 3.2–5.9°, shortens the settling time by 5.4–6.2 s, decreases the rise time by 0.7 s, lowers the overshoot by 17.5–19%, and reduces the disturbance recovery time by 1.5 s, thereby ensuring stable and efficient solar tracking and maintaining continuous energy capture. By quantitatively optimizing multiple performance metrics, this algorithm significantly enhances the control precision of solar panel tracking and improves solar energy utilization efficiency. It holds substantial significance for promoting the transition of the energy structure toward cleaner and more sustainable sources. Full article

With the development of space laser networks, miniaturization and lightweight design have become inevitable trends in laser terminal development. In laser links, functions such as spot position measurement, ranging, and data transmission are usually performed by multiple independent units. Integrating these three functions can effectively reduce the size of the opto-mechanical structure and save space within the optical transceiver, thereby supporting the lightweight and compact growth of laser terminals. This paper presents an integrated scheme based on an optical direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DSSS) quadrant detector (QD) and regenerative codes, which enables spot position measurement, ranging, and data transmission through an optical transceiver. The core of this approach involves using a code tracking loop to perform correlation gain calculation, phase comparison, and demodulation of the pseudo-noise code-modulated laser signal, thereby achieving all three functions simultaneously. A desktop experimental system was built to test and verify the scheme’s accuracy and precision. The system achieved a ranging accuracy of 14 mm (1σ), a spot position measurement accuracy of 0.83 μm (1σ) at the target center, and a communication sensitivity of −31 dBm at a 10−4 bit error rate (BER) with a data rate of 1 Kbps. This study provides a reference for future lightweight optical terminals. Full article

The article addresses the challenges of beam position tracking in Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC) systems. A review of available photodetector technologies is presented, highlighting their operating principles and applications in optical links. The analysis indicates that most current monitoring devices function with the visible and near- or short-infrared ranges. However, due to the propagation characteristics of radiation in terrestrial environments, the mid-wave infrared (MWIR) region offers particularly promising opportunities. To the end, the work introduces a novel detector module based on an MWIR quadrant detector capable of simultaneously performing two essential tasks: monitoring beam position and receiving transmitted data. Such an integrated approach has the potential to significantly simplify the design of mobile FSOC systems, especially those requiring accurate transceivers’ tracking. The concept was validated through laboratory experiments on an MWIR link model, where both the signal bandwidth and position transfer function of the quadrant detector were examined. Full article

The synergy between carbon neutrality and urbanization is essential for effective climate governance and socio-ecological intelligent transition. From the perspective of coupled urban dynamic evolution and carbon metabolism systems, this study integrates the Sen-MK trend test and the geographical detector model to explore the spatial–temporal differentiation patterns and driving mechanisms of carbon balance across 337 prefecture-level cities in China from 2012 to 2022. The results reveal a spatial–temporal mismatch between carbon emissions and carbon storage, forming an asymmetric carbon metabolism pattern characterized by “expansion-dominated and shrinkage-dissipative” dynamics. Carbon compensation rates exhibit a west–high to east–low gradient distribution, with hotspots of expansionary cities clustered in the southwest, while shrinking cities display a dispersed pattern from the northwest to the northeast. Based on the four-quadrant carbon balance classification, expansionary cities are mainly located in the “high economic–low ecological” quadrant, whereas shrinking cities concentrate in the “low economic–high ecological” quadrant. Industrial structure and population scale serve as the dual-core drivers of carbon compensation. Expansionary cities are positively regulated by urbanization rates, while shrinking cities are negatively constrained by energy intensity. These findings suggest that differentiated regulation strategies can help optimize carbon governance within national territorial space. Full article

As human activities increasingly encroach on ecologically sensitive lake zones, China’s lake-ring urban agglomerations struggle to balance the intensifying human footprint (HF) and declining habitat quality (EQ). Addressing the spatiotemporal interactions between HF and EQ is essential for achieving human–environment coordination. This study examined five major freshwater lake-ring urban agglomerations in China during the period from 2000 to 2020 and developed an HF–EQ assessment framework. First, the coupling coordination degree (CCD) model quantified the spatiotemporal coupling between HF and EQ. Second, GeoDetector identified how HF and EQ interact to influence CCD. Finally, the four-quadrant static model and CCD change rate index formed a dual-dimensional management framework. The results indicate that the spatiotemporal evolution patterns of HF and EQ are highly complementary, exhibiting a significant coupling interaction. High-CCD zones expanded from lakeside urban areas and transport corridors, while low-CCD zones remained in remote, forested areas. HF factors such as GDP, land use intensity, and nighttime lights dominated CCD dynamics, while EQ-related factors showed increasing interaction effects. Five human–environment coordination zones were identified based on the static and dynamic characteristics of HF and EQ. Synergy efficiency zones had the highest coordination with diverse land use. Ecological conservation potential zones were found in low-disturbance hilly regions. Synergy restoration zones were concentrated in croplands and urban–rural fringe areas. Imbalance regulation zones were in forest areas under development pressure. Conflict alert zones were concentrated in urban cores, transport corridors, and lakeshore belts. These findings offer insights for global human–environment coordination in lake regions. Full article

As the primary electronic payload of laser interferometry system for space gravitational wave detection, the core function of the phasemeter is ultra-high precision phase measurement. According to the principle of laser heterodyne interferometry and the requirement of 1 pm ranging accuracy of the phasemeter, the phase measurement noise should reach 2π μrad/Hz1/2@(0.1 mHz–1 Hz). The heterodyne interference signal first passes through the quadrant photoelectric detector (QPD) to achieve photoelectric conversion, then passes through the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to achieve analog and digital conversion, and finally passes through the digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) for phase locking. The sampling timing jitter of the heterodyne interference signal caused by the ADC is the main noise affecting the phase measurement performance and must be suppressed. This paper proposes a sampling timing jitter noise suppression system (STJNSS), which can set system parameters for high-frequency signals used for inter-satellite clock noise transmission, the system clock of the phasemeter, and the pilot frequency for suppressing ADC sampling timing jitter noise, meeting the needs of the current major space gravitational wave detection plans. The experimental results after the integration of SJNSS and the phase meter show that the phase measurement noise of the heterodyne interferometer signal reaches 2π μrad/Hz1/2@(0.1 mHz–1 Hz), which meets the requirements of space gravitational wave missions. In gravitational wave measurement and inter-satellite laser communication systems, the relative rotation and motion between the transmitter and receiver terminals introduces small angular deviations over a link distance of thousands of kilometers, which need to be measured with high accuracy and sensitivity. The heterodyne coherent angle measurement has a higher measurement accuracy and detection sensitivity compared with the traditional direct detection technique, which performs angle measurement through the phase of a beat frequency signal. In this paper, we propose a four-quadrant heterodyne coherent angle measurement technique with μrad accuracy and nW-level detection sensitivity. A mathematical model of a differential wavefront sensing (DWS) angle solution was formulated, and a Monte Carlo simulation system was built for performance testing. An experimental system was devised to assess the accuracy and sensitivity of the heterodyne coherent measurement method and to compare the performance with that of the direct detection method. The experimental results showed that for azimuth and pitch axes, the accuracy of the heterodyne coherent angle measurement was 2.54 μrad and 2.85 μrad under the same signal power of −16 dBm, which had a 5-fold improvement compared with direct detection. The sensitivity of the heterodyne coherent detection was −50 dBm at the 20 μrad accuracy threshold, which was a 1000-fold improvement compared with direct detection. This research is of great significance for the phase measurement and tracking system in the field of gravitational wave detection and has a guiding role in system design work in the field of inter-satellite laser communication.
