The presented article analyzes the impact of internal defects on the modal responses of polyamide parts subjected to bending. Samples with defects of various sizes (0, 3, 5, 7, and 10 mm) located at the neutral bending line were tested. Modal properties were measured via an acoustic and a vibration sensor, using impulse excitation and fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis. Modal properties include peak frequency, damping and amplitude. Non-defective samples show lower peak frequency and stronger amplitude for both detectors. Moreover, defects larger than 3 mm have minimal impact on peak frequency. The vibration detector is more sensitive to delamination presented at 7 and 10 mm defects. In addition, elevated peak frequency at 3 mm is the result of local hardening at the defect edge. Moreover, a neutral line position reduces damping when the defect size approaches 5 mm. Conversely, acoustic detectors ignore delamination and reveal lower damping and amplitude at 7 and 10 mm defects. Furthermore, internal sound diffusion from 3 and 5 mm defects enhances air losses and damping. Acoustic detectors only evaluate fault size and position, whereas vibrational detectors may detect local reinforcement and delamination more easily. These results highlight the importance of choosing the right detector according to the location, size, and specific modal characteristics of defects. Full article

In a European context, facing pressure to digitalize public administration, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) at the local level remains a deeply uneven and empirically poorly understood process. This study investigates the degree of adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in local public administrations in Germany, exploring territorial disparities and institutional factors influencing this transition. Based on a national sample of 347 municipalities, this research proposes a composite AI adoption index, built by integrating six relevant indicators (including the use of conversational bots and the automation of internal and decision-making processes). In the simulations, local administration profiles were differentiated according to factors such as IT staff (with a weight of 30%), the degree of urbanization (25%), and participation in digital networks (20%), reflecting significant structural variations between regions. The analysis model used is a multilevel one, which highlights the combined influences of local and regional factors. The results indicate a clear stratification of digital innovation capacity, with significant differences between eastern and western Germany, as well as between urban and rural environments. The study contributes to the specialized literature by developing a replicable analytical tool and provides public policy recommendations for reducing interregional digital divides. Full article

This paper presents the development and validation of the Transgender Health, Resilience, Inner Well-Being, Vitality, and Empowerment (THRIVE) Scale. It offers insights into the well-being of transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals, by considering their unique experiences and challenges. TGD individuals often experience significant health disparities, including mental health issues, substance abuse, physical health problems, and difficulty with providers knowing about their needs. A comprehensive quality-of-life assessment could aid in identifying contributions to poor quality of life (QOL) and knowing which resources are needed to address this effectively. Assessments attempting to address these challenges often have not been studied adequately and/or have limitations of being for one-time use, surgery-focused, lengthy, emotionally taxing, and not inclusive of non-binary individuals’ specific needs. Validated among a sample of TGD individuals (N = 61), the THRIVE scale displayed good internal consistency reliability (α = 0.87), as well as convergent and divergent validity. It had significant negative correlations with measures of psychological symptoms and identity distress and positive correlations with measures of life satisfaction and well-being. The THRIVE scale represents a critical advancement in assessing the QOL of TGD individuals and could be an effective tool for individualized care, research, and conversation with these populations. This study examines the effects of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) market-based measures, with a particular focus on the greenhouse gas (GHG) levy and on the financial and operational performance of Korean shipping companies. The analysis estimates that these companies, which play a vital role in global trade, consume approximately 9211 kilotons of fuel annually and emit 28.5 million tons of carbon dioxide. Under the lowest proposed carbon tax scenario, the financial burden on these companies is estimated at approximately KRW 1.07 trillion, resulting in an 8.8% reduction in net profit, a 2.4% decrease in return on equity (ROE), and a 1.1% decline in return on assets (ROA). Conversely, under the highest carbon tax scenario, costs rise to KRW 4.89 trillion, leading to a significant 40.2% decrease in net profit, thereby posing a serious threat to the financial stability and competitiveness of these firms. These findings underscore the urgent need for strategic policy interventions to mitigate the financial impact of carbon taxation while promoting both environmental sustainability and economic resilience in the maritime sector. In 2023, there were approximately 32 million refugees globally. Nine out of the ten countries with the highest origins of refugees were in the Global South; conversely, only three of the ten countries hosting the highest numbers of refugees were in the Global North. In this study, we introduce the conceptual framework of a global division of responsibility sharing to describe how functions of Global North countries as permanent “resettlement” countries and Global South countries as perpetual countries of “asylum” and “transit” constitute unequal burdens with unequal protections for refugees. We illustrate—theoretically and empirically—how the structural positions of state actors in a global network introduce and reify a global division in refugee flows. Empirically, we test and develop this framework with network analysis of refugee flows to countries of asylum from 1990 to 2015 in addition to employing data on monetary donations to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) from 2017 to 2021. We (1) provide evidence of the structure and role of intermediary countries in refugee flows and (2) examine how UNHCR monetary aid conditions intermediary countries’ role of routing and transit. We illustrate how network constraints and monetary donations affect and constitute a global division in the management of historic and contemporary international refugee flows and explore the consequences of this global division for refugees’ access to resources and social and human rights. The hydraulic turbine serves as the cornerstone of hydropower generation systems, with the sealing system’s performance critically influencing energy conversion efficiency and operational cost-effectiveness. The sealing ring is a pivotal component, which mitigates leakage and energy loss by regulating flow within the narrow gap between itself and the frame. This study investigates the intricate flow dynamics within the gap between the sealing ring and the upper frame of a super-large-scale Francis turbine, with a specific focus on the rotating wall’s impact on the flow field. Employing theoretical modeling and three-dimensional transient computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations grounded in real turbine design parameters, the research reveals that the rotating wall significantly alters shear flow and vortex formation within the gap. Tangential velocity exhibits a nonlinear profile, accompanied by heightened turbulence intensity near the wall. The short flow channel height markedly shapes flow evolution, driving the axial velocity profile away from a conventional parabolic pattern. Further analysis of rotation-induced vortices and flow instabilities, supported by turbulence kinetic energy monitoring and spectral analysis, reveals the periodic nature of vortex shedding and pressure fluctuations. These findings elucidate the internal flow mechanisms of the sealing ring, offering a theoretical framework for analyzing flow in microscale gaps. Moreover, the resulting flow field data establishes a robust foundation for future studies on upper crown gap flow stability and sealing ring dynamics. Full article

Tourist satisfaction models typically assume that service performance dimensions carry the same weight for all travelers. Drawing on Bourdieu, we reconceptualize age, gender, and region of origin as demographic capital, durable resources that mediate how visitors decode service cues. Using a SERVPERF-based survey of 407 international travelers departing Quito (Ecuador), we test measurement invariance across six sociodemographic strata with multi-group confirmatory factor analysis. The four-factor SERVPERF core (Access, Lodging, Extra-hotel Services, Attractions) holds, yet partial metric invariance emerges: specific loadings flex with demographic capital. Gen-Z travelers penalize transport reliability and safety; female visitors reward cleanliness and empathy; and Latin American guests are the most critical of basic organization. These patterns expose a boundary condition for universalistic satisfaction models and elevate demographic capital from a descriptive tag to a structuring construct. Managerially, we translate the findings into segment-sensitive levers, visible security for youth and regional markets, gender-responsive facility upgrades, and dual eco-luxury versus digital-detox bundles for long-haul segments. By demonstrating when and how SERVPERF fractures across sociodemographic lines, this study intervenes in three theoretical conversations: (1) capital-based readings of consumption, (2) the search for boundary conditions in service-quality measurement, and (3) the shift from segmentation to capital-sensitive interpretation in emerging markets. The results position Ecuador as a critical case and provide a template for destinations facing similar performance–perception mismatches in the Global South. Full article

As a pivotal technology and infrastructure component for modern power systems, energy storage has experienced significant advancement in recent years. A fundamental prerequisite for designing future energy storage facilities lies in the systematic evaluation of energy conversion capabilities across diverse storage technologies. This study conducted a comparative analysis between pumped hydroelectric storage (PHS) and compressed air energy storage (CAES), defining the concepts of height exergy and temperature exergy. Height exergy is the maximum work capacity of a liquid due to height differences, while temperature exergy is the maximum work capacity of a gas due to temperature differences. The temperature exergy represents innovation in thermodynamic analysis; it is derived from internal exergy and proven through the Maxwell relation and the decoupling method of internal exergy, offering a more efficient method for calculating energy storage capacity in CAES systems. Mathematical models of height exergy and temperature exergy were established based on their respective forms. A unified calculation formula was derived, and their respective characteristics were analyzed. In order to show the meaning of temperature exergy more clearly and intuitively, a height exergy model of temperature exergy was established through analogy analysis, and it was concluded that the shape of the reservoir was a cone when comparing water volume to heat quantity, intuitively showing that the cold source had a higher energy storage density than the heat source. Finally, a typical hybrid PHS–CAES system was proposed, and a mathematical model was established and verified in specific cases based on height exergy and temperature exergy. It was demonstrated that when the polytropic exponent n = 1.2, the theoretical loss accounted for the largest proportion, which was 2.06%. Full article

Rehabilitation Protocols for Surgically Treated Acetabular Fractures in Older Adults: Current Practices and Outcomes

Background/Objectives: Acetabular fractures in older adults pose significant challenges due to bone fragility, complex fracture patterns, and increased comorbidities. Surgical management, including isolated open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and ORIF combined with acute total hip arthroplasty (THA) (combined hip procedure—CHP), have advanced considerably. Nevertheless, optimal postoperative rehabilitation and particularly weight-bearing (WB) recommendations remain controversial and inconsistent. This review aims to assess rehabilitation protocols, focusing on WB strategies following the surgical treatment of acetabular fractures in older adults. It also examines differences in WB restrictions by surgical technique (ORIF vs. CHP) and their impact on recovery, complications, reoperations, and mortality. Methods: A systematic review of PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library (2006–2024) included studies involving patients aged ≥65 years treated surgically for displaced acetabular fractures. Data included WB protocols (full, partial, toe-touch), length of stay (LOS), healing, functional outcomes (mobility, Harris and Oxford Hip Scores), complications, reoperations, delayed THA, compliance, readmission, and mortality. Due to heterogeneity, findings were narratively synthesized. Risk of bias was assessed using ROBINS-I and RoB2. Results: Twenty studies involving 929 patients (530 isolated ORIF, 399 CHP) were analyzed. The overall mean follow-up was 3.5 years (range: 1–5.25 years). Postoperative WB protocols were reported in 19 studies (95%). Immediate full WB was permitted in 0% of isolated ORIF studies (0/13), with partial WB recommended by 62% (8/13) for durations typically between 6 and 12 weeks. On the other hand, immediate full WB was allowed in 53% (9/17) of CHP studies. Functional outcomes were moderate following isolated ORIF (mean HHS: 63–82 points), with delayed THA conversion rates ranging from 16.5% to 45%. CHP demonstrated superior functional outcomes (mean HHS: 70–92 points), earlier independent ambulation, and higher patient satisfaction (74–90%), yet increased orthopedic complications, including dislocations (8–11%) and implant loosening (up to 18%). LOS varied from 12 to 21 days (mean 16 days) for isolated ORIF and from 8 to 25 days (mean 17 days) for CHP. Readmission within 30 days was not explicitly reported in any study. Mortality at 1 year varied significantly (ORIF: 0–25%; CHP: 0–14%), increasing markedly at long-term follow-up (up to 42% ORIF, up to 70% CHP at five years). Compliance with WB restrictions was monitored in only two studies (11%). Conclusions: Postoperative rehabilitation after acetabular fracture surgery in older adults remains inconsistent and lacks standardization. Combining ORIF with acute THA may enable earlier weight-bearing and improved short-term function but carries risks such as dislocation and implant loosening. In contrast, isolated ORIF avoids these implant-related complications but often requires prolonged weight-bearing restrictions. Robust evidence is still missing. Future trials are essential to establish standardized protocols that balance mechanical protection and functional recovery. Full article

This paper aims to enhance operational efficiency in the labor-intensive production of composite wind turbine blades, which are critical components of renewable energy systems. The study was conducted at a wind energy facility in Türkiye, integrating the Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) methodology with a Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (MRCPSP) model to reduce production cycle time and optimize labor utilization. An operational time analysis was used to identify and classify non-value-adding activities. SMED principles were then adapted to the fixed-position manufacturing environment, enabling the conversion of internal setup activities into external ones and facilitating task parallelization. These improvements significantly increased productivity and labor efficiency. Subsequently, a scheduling model was developed to optimize the sequence of operations while accounting for activity precedence and resource constraints. As a result, the proposed approach reduced cycle time by 28.6% and increased average labor utilization from 68% to 87%. Scenario analyses confirmed the robustness of the model under varying levels of workforce availability. The findings demonstrate that integrating lean manufacturing techniques with optimization-based scheduling can yield substantial efficiency gains without requiring major capital investment. Moreover, the proposed approach offers practical insights into workforce planning and production scheduling in renewable energy manufacturing environments. Full article

Background: While some evidence supports the benefits of food-related tasks, research examining their association with psychosocial health in adolescents remains scarce. The aim of this study was to examine the association between Spanish adolescents’ involvement in food-related household tasks and their psychosocial health. Methods: This cross-sectional study used secondary data from the original Eating Healthy and Daily Life Activities (EHDLA) study. The final sample comprised 273 boys (43.0%) and 361 girls (57.0%). Adolescents self-reported their weekly frequency of involvement in two food-related tasks: meal preparation and grocery shopping, with responses ranging from ‘never’ to ‘seven times’. Psychosocial health was assessed using the 25-item self-report version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), comprising five subscales: emotional problems, conduct problems, hyperactivity, peer problems, and prosocial behavior. A total difficulties score was calculated by summing the first four subscales. Generalized linear models were used to evaluate associations between the frequency of food task involvement (categorized into five levels) and SDQ outcomes. All models were adjusted for age, sex, socioeconomic status, body mass index, sleep duration, physical activity, sedentary behavior, and energy intake. Results: Concerning to the frequency of helping to prepare food for dinner, an inverse association was observed between food preparation involvement and several psychosocial problems. Adolescents who helped seven times per week reported significantly lower scores in conduct problems (B = −2.00; 95% CI −3.30 to −0.69; p = 0.003), peer problems (B = −2.83; 95% CI −4.29 to −1.38; p < 0.001), internalizing problems (B = −3.90; 95% CI −7.03 to −0.77; p = 0.015), and total psychosocial difficulties (B = −5.74; 95% CI −10.68 to −0.80; p = 0.023), compared to those who never helped. Conversely, those who helped seven times per week had higher prosocial behavior than their counterparts who never helped (B = 1.69; 95% CI: 0.14 to 3.24; p = 0.033). Regarding the frequency of helping to shop for food, similar patterns were found, with lower conduct problems (B = −2.11; 95% CI −3.42 to −0.81; p = 0.002), peer problems (B = −2.88; 95% CI −4.34 to −1.42; p < 0.001), internalizing problems (B = −4.16; 95% CI −7.28 to −1.04; p = 0.009), and total psychosocial difficulties (B = −6.31; 95% CI −11.24 to −1.39; p = 0.012) associated with more frequent involvement, especially among those who helped five or more times per week. Conversely, adolescents who helped seven times per week had higher prosocial behavior than their peers who never helped (B = 1.56; 95% CI: 0.01 to 3.11; p = 0.049). Conclusions: Although adolescent psychosocial health is influenced by multiple factors, our findings suggest that regular involvement in food-related household tasks may serve as a protective factor against conduct problems, peer problems, internalizing problems, and total difficulties, while also enhancing prosocial behavior. However, given the cross-sectional design, conclusions regarding causality should be made cautiously, and further longitudinal research is needed to confirm these associations and assess their long-term impact. These results highlight the relevance of daily structured routines, such as meal preparation and grocery shopping, as potential support for mental well-being during adolescence. Full article

Background/Objective: Thrombosis is the leading cause of graft failure and immediate hysterectomy following uterus transplantation (UTx). Currently, there is no standardized method for real-time assessment of UTx graft perfusion. This feasibility study aims to evaluate the utility of a near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) probe for non-invasive monitoring of local cervical tissue oxygenation (StO2) during UTx. As proof-of-concept for the NIRS device, cervical StO2 was also measured during non-donor hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy to establish its capacity to reflect perfusion changes corresponding to vascular ligation. Methods: The ViOptix T. Ox Tissue Oximeter NIRS probe was attached to four uterine cervices during hysterectomy procedures and three separate donor cervices during UTx. Real-time StO2 measurements were recorded at critical surgical steps: baseline, ovarian vessel ligation, contralateral ovarian vessel ligation, uterine vessel ligation, contralateral uterine vessel ligation, and colpotomy for hysterectomy; donor internal iliac vein anastomosis to recipient external iliac vein, donor internal iliac artery anastomosis to recipient external iliac artery, contralateral donor internal iliac vein anastomosis to recipient external iliac vein, contralateral donor internal iliac artery anastomosis to recipient external iliac artery, and donor and recipient vagina anastomosis for UTx. Results: During hysterectomy, average StO2 levels sequentially decreased: 70.2% (baseline), 56.7% (ovarian vessel ligation), 62.1% (contralateral ovarian vessel ligation), 50.5% (uterine vessel ligation), 35.8% (contralateral uterine vessel ligation), and 8.5% (colpotomy). Conversely, during UTx, StO2 progressive increased with each anastomosis: 8.9% (internal iliac vein- external iliac vein), 27.9% (internal iliac artery-external iliac artery), 56.9% (contralateral internal iliac vein-contralateral external iliac vein), 65.9% (contralateral internal iliac artery-contralateral external iliac artery), and 65.2% (vaginal anastomosis). Conclusions: The inverse correlation between StO2 and vascular ligation during hysterectomy and the progressive rise in StO2 during UTx suggests that cervical tissue oximetry may serve as a non-invasive modality for monitoring uterine graft perfusion. Further studies are warranted to determine whether these devices complement current assessments of uterine graft viability and salvage thrombosed grafts. Full article

This study explores the evolution of China’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH) governance through the lens of discursive institutionalism, with a specific focus on how institutional discourse and arrangements shape the spatial configuration and symbolic meaning of ICH-related landscapes. By analyzing policy discourse, governance actors, resource mobilization, and regulatory mechanisms, the study traces the transition from community-led practices to increasingly formalized and spatialized systems under the influence of the 2003 UNESCO Convention. Drawing on a combination of historical policy analysis and place-specific institutional insights, the research finds that while institutional reforms have enhanced administrative coherence and international alignment, they have also at times disrupted vernacular meanings and weakened residents’ place-based cultural attachments. Conversely, localized revitalization initiatives can foster community resilience and landscape justice. These findings are derived from an interpretive synthesis of institutional trajectories and spatial governance practices. Overall, the study contributes to the theoretical integration of discursive institutionalism and cultural geography, offering new insights into heritage governance and sustainable cultural planning in rapidly urbanizing contexts. Starting Active Materials for Synthesis (SAMS) represents a critical stage in drug manufacturing, directly influencing the microbiological quality and safety of the final product. The introduction of SAMS marks the point where Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) begin to apply, which are essential for ensuring sterility and preventing microbial contamination during the synthesis process. However, defining the exact point in the process that qualifies as the SAMS is subject to uncertainties, as earlier stages are not always governed by stringent GMP standards. The regulatory differences between various countries further contribute to this issue. This study explores the implications of SAMS selection and use in relation to sterility and infection control, analyzing the guidelines of major Regulatory Authorities and comparing their approaches to GMP. Regulations from several international regulatory agencies were examined, with a particular focus on microbiological control measures and infection protection in the SAMS manufacturing process. The analysis focused on the microbiological control requirements and safety measures applicable to the stages preceding the introduction of SAMS into the production of the final Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). Documents published between 2015 and 2025 were included based on predefined criteria regarding relevance, accessibility, and regulatory authority. The analysis revealed significant discrepancies between regulations regarding the definition and management of SAMS. In particular, the regulations in Mexico and India have notable gaps, failing to provide clear guidelines on SAMS sterility and protection against infectious contamination. Conversely, China has introduced risk-based approaches and early-stage microbiological controls, especially for sterile products, aligning with international standards. The European Medicines Agency (EMA), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S), and the World Health Organization (WHO) have well-established systems for microbiological quality control of SAMS, including rigorous measures for the validation of suppliers and risk management to ensure that SAMS does not compromise the microbiological safety of the final product. The regulations in Brazil and Canada introduce additional measures to protect the microbiological quality of SAMS, with specifications for contamination control and certification of critical stages. The lack of a harmonized language for the definition of SAMS, coupled with a fragmented regulatory framework, presents a challenge for infection protection in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Key issues include the absence of specific regulations for stages prior to the introduction of SAMS and the lack of standards for inspections related to these stages. A desirable solution would be the mandatory extension of GMPs to the stages before SAMS introduction, with centralized control to ensure sterility and protection against infection throughout the entire manufacturing process. With the increasing prominence of the energy crisis and environmental problems, microgrid technology has received widespread attention as an important technical means to improve the stability and reliability of new energy access. Focusing on the latest development of microgrid operation control technology, this paper combs and summarizes the related research at home and abroad, including the key technologies of microgrid optimization operation, power prediction and virtual synchronous active support control technology, and points out their advantages and limitations. First, this review describes the concept and structure of microgrids, including components such as distributed power sources, energy storage devices, energy conversion devices and loads. Then, the microgrid optimization operation technologies are analyzed in detail, including energy management optimization algorithms for efficient use of energy and cost reduction. Focusing on microgrid power forecasting techniques, including wind energy and PV power forecasting and load forecasting, the contributions and impacts of different power forecasting methods are summarized. Furthermore, the inverter control strategies and the stability mechanism of the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) active support control technology are investigated. Finally, synthesizing domestic and international microgrid development experience, this review summarizes the current state-of-the-art technologies, analyzes the advantages and limitations of these key technologies (including optimization scheduling, power prediction and VSG-based active support control) and highlights the necessity of their continuous improvement to provide a solid foundation for promoting the widespread application and sustainable development of microgrid technology.
