Prof. Dr. Zhou Li Appointed Editor-in-Chief of Micro
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Zhou Li has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Micro (ISSN: 2673-8023).
Prof. Dr. Zhou Li serves as a Doctoral Supervisor and Deputy Director at the Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and is a Professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
His research focuses on the advancement of bioelectronic and medical devices, namely, in the areas of wearable and implantable electronic health monitoring and therapy devices, biosensors, biodegradable electronics, and biomechanical investigations. Prof. Dr. Zhou Li has authored a total of 276 papers, more than 140 papers of which he is the first or corresponding author and have an impact factor exceeding 10. His publications have achieved an H-index of 78, with over 20000 citations, several of which are among the most frequently cited papers in the field.
Prof. Dr. Zhou Li has been awarded the Science and Technology Award of Beijing, the “Young Investigator’s Award” of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), and the Gold Award of the China Association of Inventions.
The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Zhou Li, who shared his vision for the journal with us as well as his views on the research area and open access publishing:
1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take on the role as its Editor-in-Chief?
I am drawn to the Micro journal for its international nature and multidisciplinary approach to open access. It encompasses research at the micro- and nanoscales across various fields, including physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine, which aligns closely with my research interests and professional background. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the development of such an interdisciplinary platform, as it not only fosters communication and collaboration across different fields but also accelerates the dissemination of scientific discoveries. Serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Micro journal is both an honor and a challenge for me, and I eagerly anticipate witnessing the journal's rapid progress and development.
2. What is your vision for the journal?
My vision for Micro is to develop it into a leading journal in the field of micro- and nanoscale research. By implementing rigorous peer-review standards and providing high-quality editorial services, I aim to ensure that every published study meets a high academic standard. I hope it becomes the preferred platform for global scientists to publish high-quality, high-impact research findings. To achieve this, I will work on enhancing the journal's international reputation, attracting more top scholars to submit their work, and ensuring the fairness and efficiency of the peer-review process. I also plan to organize thematic workshops and Special Issues focusing on current research hotspots and cutting-edge issues to further expand the journal's influence.
3. What does the future of this field of research look like?
The future of the field of micro- and nanoscience is filled with challenges and opportunities. With advancements in the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials, breakthroughs are expected in various areas such as energy, healthcare, and the environment. From nanomedicine to sustainable technologies, these studies will have a profound impact on human life. I believe that future research will place greater emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as the integration and optimization of nanotechnology in practical applications.
4. What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?
Open access is an important trend in the field of scientific publishing. It not only facilitates the free flow of knowledge but also enhances the visibility and impact of research findings. For the Micro journal, open access allows our research to be accessed by scientists, educators, and the public worldwide, which is crucial for accelerating the dissemination and application of scientific discoveries. I support open access and believe it plays a significant role in enhancing research transparency, rapidly sharing research outcomes, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. However, open access also faces challenges, such as ensuring publication quality and sustainability. Therefore, I will pay attention to the economic implications of open access for authors and publishers and explore sustainable publishing models to ensure the long-term stability and growth of the journal.
