Prof. Dr. Abdollah Saboori Appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of Section “Additive Manufacturing” in Metals
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Abdollah Saboori has been appointed Section Editor-in-Chief of the “Additive Manufacturing” Section in Metals (ISSN: 2075-4701).
Prof. Dr. Abdollah Saboori is an associate professor of advanced materials processing at the Department of Management and Production Engineering of the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. His research deals with the correlation between the properties of metallic materials and additive manufacturing processes. In recent years, his scientific activity has focused on alloys and composites produced via metal additive manufacturing processes. Prof. Dr. Abdollah Saboori was a visiting Ph.D. student at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, and he received a Ph.D. with honors in materials science and technology from the Politecnico di Torino with a thesis on metal matrix nanocomposites. He is a co-author of more than 100 scientific papers published in scientific journals and conference proceedings. He was awarded the Excellent Article Award in Acta Metallurgica Sinica (English Letters) in 2018 and 2022, The World's Top 2% Scientists award in 2021, 2022, and 2023, a Top Reviewer Award in Materials Science and cross-filed in 2019, a Top Reviewer Award in Materials Science in 2018 (Publons), a 2018 Outstanding Reviewer Award (Switzerland), etc.
The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Abdollah Saboori, who shared his vision for the journal with us, as well as his views of the research area and open access publishing:
1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to become its Section Editor-in-Chief?
I have had long-standing collaborations with MDPI journals, especially with Metals, and I have witnessed firsthand its remarkable progress over the years. This consistent growth and the quality of the work published inspired me to contribute more actively and take on a more significant role in supporting and further advancing the journal’s development.
2. Can you briefly introduce your current research?
At Politecnico di Torino, my research focuses on the process–structure–properties relationships of metallic components produced through direct metal additive manufacturing processes. My goal is to address the critical challenges associated with this transformative pillar of Industry 4.0 and contribute to the development of reliable, high-performance AM solutions.
3. What is your vision for the journal?
My vision is to work together with the editorial team and contributors to further elevate the scientific impact of Metals in the research community. By attracting high-quality submissions and engaging with emerging research directions, I believe we can position the journal as a key point of reference in the field of metallic materials and processing.
4. What does the future of this field of research look like?
The future of additive manufacturing is very promising. We are already seeing tremendous efforts to expand its application not only in terrestrial manufacturing but also in space exploration. Its potential for design freedom, resource efficiency, and decentralized production will continue to reshape the future of industrial production.
5. What do you think of the development of open access in the publishing field?
Open access publishing plays a crucial role today in democratizing knowledge. It reduces global inequalities by providing access to scientific findings, regardless of geographic or economic barriers. I strongly believe that open access is essential for ensuring that research can benefit the entire global community.
