Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Foodborne pathogens, which include pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, and a range of parasites, represent a major burden on society as they are the cause of high numbers of illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths each year. In addition, they represent a significant economic cost to food companies in the implementation and constant oversight of food hygiene and safety programs, product recalls, and potential litigation if outbreaks occur. Advancing current knowledge of the food processing chain, its vulnerabilities to foodborne pathogens, and the availability of effective and safe vaccines is paramount to the development of effective strategies for improving food safety. Furthermore, developing knowledge about the efficacy of preventive strategies should be of high interest for people who, due to work activities or illness, are at risk.

To achieve a more extensive understanding of recent scientific knowledge and current trends in the development of vaccines that protect against foodborne disease, this Special Issue welcomes original research articles, reviews and commentaries focused on the recent scientific and technical progresses made in this field, the development/efficacy of new preventive strategies by public health authorities, scientific organizations, and stakeholders, and the current lack of therapies and preventive strategies.
