Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The valorization of agri-food by-products for human and animal consumption has gained significant interest, particularly in the feed, food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries. In this context, the development and optimization of analytical methods for the quality and safety assessment of plant and animal by-products, as well as the upcycled foods and ingredients derived from them, are critical to ensure consumer protection and regulatory compliance.
This Special Issue aims to bring together the latest innovations in advanced separation methods and analytical techniques for safety assessment, the removal of undesirable physical and chemical substances, and the extraction and purification of high-added-value compounds with bioactive and functional properties from agro-industrial by-products. The main goal is to promote the sustainable and cost-effective upcycling of these raw materials into natural feed and food-grade ingredients.
We invite researchers and professionals in the field to submit original research papers and review articles that contribute to food loss and waste valorization in an eco-sustainable manner, in accordance with food safety standards, through the use of cutting-edge separation methods and innovative technologies. We believe this Special Issue will serve as a valuable platform for sharing knowledge and fostering innovation in this rapidly growing area of research and development.
We look forward to receiving your submissions!

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Separations is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
